Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Safety Specialist works independently to provide technical and professional safety health support to BAE Systems managers and employees to improve the safety and health of our employees and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees the Industrial Hygiene Program, including monitoring, analyzing results, and ensuring proper controls and awareness
Work with management, staff, and hourly employees to promote the development of a safety, health, and environmental culture that exhibits the behaviors and processes outlined in the BAE Systems SHE management systems.
Inspect facilities, machinery, and equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety and health regulation compliance.
Assist with the on-going management of the Safety Management System. Prepare and update procedures and work instructions. Be instrumental in assisting with corporate SHE reviews and inspections.
Schedule, conduct, and oversee occupational safety and health training.
Routinely conducts internal safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
Review and update Safety and Occupational Health policies and procedures, ensuring they are accurate, current, and reflect the latest Regulatory, Industry, and Company standards and requirements.
Review plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment in order to determine if safety health and environmental requirements have been met
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in safety or equivalent field.
Thorough knowledge of EHS regulations and modern EHS management principles and 4 years of experience
Experience with Industrial Hygiene sampling and reporting.
Communicate complex information effectively with employees and all levels of site management (written and verbal).
Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative individually.
Manage time efficiently with little supervision
Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prepare and present survey analyses to all employee groups.
Experience facilitating meetings and working groups
Work proficiently with Microsoft suite of programs
