Essential Functions
Assists the Executive Director and various directors with the development, dissemination, implementation, and evaluation of teaching and learning initiatives.
Uses current research to plan for and develop programs and strategies to improve student outcomes associated with current state and national standards, including the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards.
Uses data collected to strategically support the needs of teachers and school leaders in the district.
Develops and provides appropriate guidance for schools and school leaders on best practices in teaching and learning.
Supports the design and ongoing implementation of technical solutions to support the core functions of City Schools.
Provides district level leadership in the areas of K-12 scheduling and state reporting.
Supports the strategic budgeting process for district office and schools.
Provides reporting and data analysis support to staff across the Academics office.
Works collaboratively with a highly motivated team from multiple offices to advance teaching and learning in the district.
Reviews, provides feedback on, and finalizes presentations, memorandums, and other requests of the Board of School Commissioners.
Coordinates procurement for the Office of Teaching and Learning, including supplemental materials strategy and review, contract recommendations, and written requests of the Board.
Supports director and coordinator level staff with effective project management.
Prepares and maintains complex financial records using Excel or comparable software required.
Provides ongoing consultation and coaching support on behalf of the Executive Director to support office and district initiatives.
Serves as the liaison between the office of Teaching and Learning and relevant district partners, including but not limited to local philanthropic and non-profit organizations, City agencies, and community organizations.
Represents City Schools at various internal and external meetings and conferences.
Keeps abreast of best practices in teaching and learning.
Keeps abreast of current district, state, and federal policy and/or legislation as it relates to teaching and learning; provides relevant recommendations and/or feedback on policy updates.
Articulates and interprets the laws and regulations related to teaching and learning at the federal, state, and local levels.
Collaborates with district office and school-based staff to ensure the effective implementation of teaching and learning initiatives.
Manages strategic hiring process for the Office of Teaching and Learning; supports the school-based hiring of key district managed positions.
Coordinates special programs and initiatives related to the district’s strategic priorities.
Provides support in the identification and preparation of federal, state, and private grant proposals to secure resources to support teaching and learning initiatives.
Manages multiple competitively awarded grants.

Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree preferred.
Three years of K-12 experience in an urban setting, such as classroom teaching experience or district office experience.
Knowledge of current research and best practices in K-12 education.
Ability to work effectively in a high pressure, deadline regulated atmosphere.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Proficient in the use of technical computer applications including Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and excel.
Ability to facilitate positive communication and coordination of program activities with teachers, administrators, and staff.
Ability to analyze and interpret data and make programmatic recommendations and/or decisions aligned to best practices and district priorities.
Ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations and written work products.
Ability to provide specific feedback on work products of various content and purpose.
Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, high pressure atmosphere in which there are multiple short- and long-term tasks.
Ability to think strategically and manage programs and partnerships.
