JOB INFORMATION:
Supervising Meter Reader positions develop and conduct field training programs and safety meetings; resolve meter issues, complaints and investigations; direct public relations and customer contact situations; supervise, train, and evaluate the work performance of subordinates; coordinate workload issues with other units/divisions; maintain records; prepare reports; assist in operating computer system to download and upload route information; and perform other duties as assigned.
NOTES:
The following wage increases are scheduled to take effect for Supervising Meter Reader: 5% effective 1/1/22 and 5% effective 7/1/22.
Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive an additional 5% general wage increase effective 7/1/22.
Supervising Meter Reader employees may be required to perform physical tasks including stooping, bending, squatting, reaching, twisting, walking for extended periods of time, lifting items weighing up to 20 pounds, and digging out boxes to make meters accessible.
Supervising Meter Reader employees may be required to work overtime.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
EXPERIENCE: You must meet ONE of the following options:
Two years of full-time experience as a Field Representative with the City of San Diego.
Two years of full-time field contact experience which MUST include investigating and resolving utility service complaints.
NOTE:
City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE: You must meet ONE of the following options:
One year of full-time supervisory experience that MUST reflect responsibility for the full range of supervisory duties including planning and scheduling the work of employees, employee selection, training, evaluation, commendations, and discipline.
Test of Supervisory Ability (TSA) for City of San Diego employees: You must have achieved a passing score on any City of San Diego Test of Supervisory Ability (TSA). NOTE: TO WAIVE THE TSA EXAM, you must have one year (2080 hours) of full-time City of San Diego supervisory experience. Qualifying supervisory experience must reflect responsibility for the full range of supervisory duties including employee selection, training, evaluation, commendations, and discipline. If you are using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify, you must submit written documentation signed by your appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work you performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.
NOTE:
You may be required to provide your own vehicle for which mileage will be reimbursed.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
Proficient computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet development, and database use (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
