Payroll Tax Specialist – Phoenix
The Payroll Tax Specialist role is responsible for ensuring that all processes are executed appropriately and in a timely manner. Operates as the subject matter expert on multi-state payroll tax laws and to resolve issues and continuously looks for improvements in operational processes and designs and implements those initiatives. Reports and works directly with Controller to support the company’s accounting and tax processes.
Specific Responsibilities:
Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on all systems that drive financial transactions, with a specific concentration in payroll tax and tax compliance.
Contact various state and federal agencies to identify the proper treatment of refunds received and work with others to appropriately record and apply those refunds in the Payroll Processing System.
Reconcile and validate data.
Assist in consolidation and reporting activities.
Participate in monthly and quarterly close tasks.
Remain current on legislation and regulatory ruling impacting payroll. Enforce adherence and advise management on required actions.
Also requires support of other Finance Dept. duties including, but not limited to: A/P, registrations, data entry and other tax matters.
Requirements:
Solid Accounting skills and experience.
Full understanding of accounting controls.
Knowledge multi-state laws of auditing payrolls for compliance.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced multi-tasking, hands-on environment.
An inquisitive, critical thinker with the ability to analyze and interpret high volumes of data.
Detail and process improvement oriented.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to compose reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information; respond to questions from managers, clients, and colleagues; influence decision making; and implement project deliverables.
Self-starter with the ability to manage time effectively in a fast paced environment.
Demonstrate initiative in establishing work routine without immediate and constant supervision.
Proficiency with current office technology, including Expert knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Access) required.
Possession of a strong knowledge of payroll and payroll taxing regulations is a plus
Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business AND /OR 2-3 years related, accounting, payroll tax work experience (preferred.)
