Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Job Description: PRIMARY FUNCTION: Plans, organizes and assists in the provision of promoting optimal nutritional status of each individual through medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and in accordance with the physicians’ orders and consistent with each individual’s physical, ethnic, religious and social needs. Performs preparation of food that is palatable and appetizing in appearance according to resident’s specific diet instructions with an effort to cater to personal preferences. These duties will be enhanced by recognizing each resident as a human being with personal needs for socialization, emotional expression, nutrition, and religious/spiritual expression. A holistic approach to coordinate person-centered care in a home-like environment will be used to allow each individual a quality of life which maximizes at their Best Ability to Function (BATF). Meaningful activities will be provided to meet each person’s individualized interest, abilities, and need for socialization in accordance with our mission. Along with this, support for families and significant others will be provided through encouraging participation in the life of their loved one. HOURS OF WORK: Part-time or full-time, variable shifts and days, including weekends and holidays. QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check. Ability to pass back assessment specific to the Cook position. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Comprehensive knowledge of dietary procedures. Uses critical thinking skills to troubleshoot small issues that may arise in the kitchen, bringing larger issues to the attention of dietary lead and/or director, and differentiating between problems that are easy to solve and problems that require assistance to solve. Possesses leadership skills, including discipline and conflict resolution, to run kitchen and to direct and supervise staff. Ability to maintain detailed records. Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers and management of department in a calm, professional manner. Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with residents/staff/families and visitors. Ability to follow established policies and procedures of the Center. Ability to communicate with staff, residents and families who have inquiries about the meals provided. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Ability to understand and carry out directions/instructions/messages; both written and verbal. Ability to listen effectively and respond in a timely manner. Ability to set own goals without coaching and strive to achieve these goals. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (List is not inclusive of non-essential or marginal tasks) Ability to prepare sufficient food to meet resident, employee and visitor needs, including food for special/catered events. Ability to make, portion, and/or serve food using proper measuring equipment and serving utensils, while maintaining quality-control standards. Ability to transcribe physician diet orders as appropriate. Ability to ensure that all foods are attractively plated. Ability to assure that catered events requiring refreshments are assembled correctly and completely, and are delivered to the specified area at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled time. Ability to take food and equipment temperatures daily, and record on appropriate logs. Ability to evaluate customer satisfaction with food and service, recommending changes as needed. Ability to clean equipment and work area using recommended cleaning agents and following established work procedures. Ability to wear appropriate protective equipment when cleaning. Ability to strictly adhere to standardized recipes and preparation procedures to make sure that food is consistent in quality. Ability to work efficiently
