Taitara Mahi – Waste Minimisation Officer

Permanent full-time

We are looking for a passionate and driven person to join our team as a Waste Minimisation Officer. You will be engaging with the commercial and industrial sector to make positive changes on matters of waste minimisation in the Hastings District. You will also become an integral part of our Waste Minimisation team.

In this role, you will be responsible for working alongside a variety of external stakeholders, implementing the Council’s Joint Waste Management and Minimisation Plan vision, goals, objectives and actions in relation to commercial and industrial waste minimisation.

Assisting other team members involved with the service delivery of recycling and waste operations also forms part of this role.

This is an exciting time to join the expanding area of waste minimisation with big changes expected from central government in the coming years.

The successful candidate will have:

• Relevant tertiary qualification.
• Knowledge of resource recovery and waste generation, collection and handling processes.
• Experience in the commercial and industrial sector or industrial processes.
• Experience in facilitating behaviour change programmes would be an advantage.
• Ability to build effective and strong relationships both internally and externally with a diverse range of people.
• A passion for sustainability, the environment, and keeping Hastings beautiful.
• Project Management Experience.
• Initiative and be able to work in a team environment.
• A cool and collected manner when working under pressure.
• An innovative and proactive approach to solving problems.
