The Vehicle Modification Technician performs inspections, layouts, fabrication and/or installation of new and modified Class 7 and 8 truck and trailer chassis and components, including current or revised applications.

Responsibilities:
Read job order and observe and listen to vehicle in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures.
Installation, repair and inspection of Class 7 and 8 trucks to include chassis, engine and driveline, axles, steering, cooling system, cab, body and mounting; understanding of reasons for torque settings.
Installation, repair and inspection of vehicle hydraulic pumps, motors and piping to include installation and testing of wet kits.
Installation, repair and inspection of vehicle compressed air systems to include vehicle braking; related fail-safe systems and proper installation of lines and reservoirs.
Vehicle control, starting, charging, and lighting systems and circuits. Background knowledge permits learning to perform chassis, brake, engine and drivetrain diagnostics.
Able to fit and install steel and aluminum panels, accessories and fenders using shears, snips, cutoff tools, rivets and fasteners with minimal guidance.

Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Three years’ experience.
Appropriate manufacturer training and/or certification.
Commercial driver’s license; must be insurable.
DOT inspection experience desirable.
