Service Position Description: As an AmeriCorps Teacher Assistant, you will serve under the direct supervision of the AmeriCorps Program Director and our Reading Advantage Team to deliver small group and one-on-one instruction in support of our literacy tutoring program, Reading Advantage. In addition to the school year assignment, AmeriCorps members will also provide academic, enrichment, and social-emotional lessons during our 5-week summer learning program, Summer Advantage.

Summary of Service Opportunity:
AmeriCorps members will serve as full-time Teacher Assistants, providing small group and one-on-one instruction for the Summer Advantage and Reading Advantage programs at one of five Phalen Leadership Academies (“PLA”) schools in Indianapolis, including PLA @48, PLA @93, PLA @ 103, George and Veronica Phalen Leadership Academy, and James and Rosemary Phalen Leadership Academy. At the end of the first program year, AmeriCorps members will be responsible for helping students, who we call scholars, increase their math and reading proficiency, improve their self-esteem and engagement in school, and more deeply engage families in their children’s education.
