Position Overview

The Software Engineer (Level 1) reports to the Senior Software Engineer and is responsible for providing expertise in a variety of software system development projects, including web applications and stand-alone desktop applications.

Position Accountabilities

• Contribute to software development projects and other programming tasks as allocated by the Senior Software Engineer.
• Assist in the maintenance of ACER’s existing code-base, including legacy code written in PHP, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Contribute to internal documentation and test plans as directed by the Senior Software Engineer.
• Participate in data management, data integration and planning processes, as required.
• Investigate and test software implementations.
• Maintain high standard of engineering work and adhere to policies, standards and recommendations as set up by ACER management.
• Participate in installation and upgrading of software applications according to the ACER licensing procedures and internal Information Technology department recommendations, if required.
• Undertake other duties as required as a team member of Information Technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science (or relevant equivalent)

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

Essential

• Experience in OO Design and Development (real world design patterns, class frameworks)
• Web development experience (PHP, JavaScript, and TypeScript)
• Database application programming skills (SQL, NoSQL)
• Design documentation experience (UML)
• Strong understanding of development project lifecycles and methodologies
• Well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical clients
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Strong organisational and time management skills including the ability to deal with multiple tasks simultaneously
• Strong professional attitude combined with a “can do” approach
• A strong commitment to quality
• Willingness to learn and remain abreast of the latest information regarding new technologies

General Information

We have one position available. This position is offered on an ongoing, full-time basis, and can be based in any of our ACER Australian offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane or Perth (hybrid working arrangements also available).

Salary is within the range $87,503 – $96,714 per annum based on experience (plus the 17% ACER contribution to superannuation).
