What Success Looks Like In This Job
We are seeking a caring, professional candidate to take referrals of child
abuse/neglect from the community by telephone, in person from walk-in
clients, and via fax or mail. Receives incoming calls of a crisis nature and
determine the problem and gravity of crisis being reported. The candidate
gathers all the needed information utilizing the expanded screening questions
to make an initial assessment of the referral, determine safety issues
present, what community services may be needed, and what additional
information is needed to arrive at a referral disposition.

Examples of Duties for Success
Receives incoming calls of a crisis nature and determines the problem and
gravity of crisis being reported. Gathers all the needed information
utilizing the expanded screening questions to make an initial assessment of
the referral, determine safety issues present, what community services may
be needed, and what additional information is needed to arrive at a referral
disposition.
Completes thorough record checks on all reports received. This includes
extensive computer capabilities, knowledge of state and county systems
including Trails, CBMS, Colorado Courts, etc.
Completes genograms on referrals as needed
Refers and completes referrals for Safecare, Prevention services and/or
other agency directed services.
Enters Red team frameworks into Trails on referrals as needed
Obtains information necessary for SEN Plans of Safe Care
Collaborates with the Family Search and Engagement team to support efforts to
locate family/kin on referrals coming into the hotline
Completes notifications to Licensing and Certifying Agencies (seems like an
Annie/Betsy task) on screened out Institutional referrals as needed
Determines if callers have the right to information according to the rules of
confidentiality.
Attends and participates in RED Teams on a routine basis.
Collaborates and communicates with internal colleagues, community
agencies, and reporting parties.
Models positive, professional behaviors for others, confronts behaviors in
a non-judgmental, effective manner and de-escalates crisis situations.
Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Works Friday 8am to 2:30pm, Saturday 12:00pm-8:30pm, Sunday
12:00pm to 8:30pm, Monday 12pm-8:30pm
Qualifications for Success
Basic understanding of social casework principles and methods, demonstrate
knowledge of dynamics of child abuse/neglect. This includes an awareness of
cultural issues, child development, parent/child conflict and
psychiatric and medical problems
Must have knowledge of agency and state rules; regulations and procedures as
well as knowledge of effective parenting methods and maladaptive family
dynamics.
Ability to professionally elicit detailed information from callers in a timely
and accurate manner.
Advanced keyboarding skills required to simultaneously input information while
talking with callers.
Skill in transcribing information from callers into clear and accurate
reports.
Ability to handle emotional callers or difficult subject matter while
remaining professional and calm.
Knowledge of community resources that interface with Department’s
responsibilities to ensure appropriate disposition of referrals and that
resources given, address the identified problem areas.
Ability to assess immediate crisis situations and establish a plan of action
with minimal supervision to ensure the immediate safety of children and
adults. Must be able t exercise independent judgment and decision-making
skills in the supervisor’s absence, to include following all agency
policies and procedures.
Ability to remain calm, organized and in control of stressful situations to
ensure that information is complete, accurate and clear and to remain calm
and able to prioritize crisis caseload
Works Friday 8am to 2:30pm, Saturday 12:00pm-8:30pm, Sunday
12:00pm to 8:30pm, Monday 12pm-8:30pm
This position is not eligible for the participation in the Social Caseworker
Qualifications and Competencies process. This position is maintained strictly
as a Social Caseworker II.
More Qualifications for Success
Education and Training:
A Bachelor’s degree in one of the human behavioral sciences or related
fields as outlined in Volume II or
Educational waiver approved per Volume VII
License or Certificate:
Social Caseworker Certification or pending certification and Hotline
certification
Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check
