The Health Literacy Project Specialist primary responsibility is to facilitate, at the direction of the Director, RN Quality, Safety & Outcomes or the Patient/Family Program Manager, the strategic planning, development, implementation and operational assessment of patient/family education, clinical quality assurance, and quality improvement activities. The Health Literacy Project Specialist identifies opportunities for improvement based on regulatory and accrediting agency requirements, best practices, and monitoring of high-risk, high-volume and/or problem-prone processes. The Specialist will identify opportunities for potential cost savings and will demonstrate ability to work with any customer regardless of race, gender, lifestyle religion or cultural beliefs.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
Assesses and evaluates impact and effectiveness of changes on quality and patient/family education initiatives, plans, and programs.
Assists in developing strategic initiatives, procedures, and processes for clinical quality and patient/family education from end to end.
Evaluates and analyzes proposed clinical activities for applicability and compliance with Federal, State, and other regulatory agency requirements related to performance improvement and patient/family education.
Gathers and analyzes clinical and financial information from a variety of internal and external sources relating to patient/family education, utilization of resources, physician practice patterns, system problems, and other quality functions. Identifies trends, variances, deficiencies, and problems utilizing aggregated data and information.
Participates in comprehensive quality and patient/family education studies, assessments, and evaluations of specific clinical activities for effectiveness and recommends strategic systems, programs, and alternatives for identified deficiencies and problems.
Participates in the development and implementation of patient/family education and performance improvement activities by facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration of caregivers and working with various departments across the organization.
Participates with department management in the development and implementation of department policies and procedures and departmental patient/family education and performance improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in public health, health education, communications, nursing, sociology, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience related to the educational needs of patients, families, organizational systems, and communities and/or project management.
License/Certification: Certification in Project Management required within two(2) year of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

*Knowledge of computer skills; MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
*Ability in change management, decision-making, and patient educational development, with demonstrated training and supervisory skills.
*Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
*Ability to make effective oral presentations and prepare concise written reports to a variety of audiences.
*Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
*Ability to utilize a complex and multi-faceted approach to problem solving, integrating information from multiple sources, synthesizing information and developing comprehensive responses.
*Ability to speak, read, write, and understand effectively at a level appropriate for the job.
