ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Construction Coordinator to join our Capital Projects team reporting to the Capital Projects Senior Superintendent.
Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.
The Construction Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordinating and executing projects within the Capital Projects portfolio.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will include:
- Manages project contractors by monitoring and controlling performance;
- Meets operational standards by contributing construction information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying construction management system improvements;
- Meets project budgets and timelines by monitoring project expenditures; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions;
- Accomplishes construction project results by defining project purpose and scope; calculating resources required; establishing standards and protocols; allocating resources; scheduling and coordinating staff and contractors; evaluating milestone assumptions and conclusions; resolving design problems; evaluating and implementing change orders;
- Prevents orders and interruptions by complying with, and enforcing, the various regulations and codes;
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures;
- Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
QUALIFICATIONS
Our ideal candidate has:
- 5-10 years’ experience in managing the execution of small to medium size construction projects;
- Knowledge of project management techniques (i.e., critical path method, progress measurement and earned value technique) and experience in cost monitoring, analyzing and reporting;
- Good organizational skills are required with attention to details;
- Ability to establish priorities and work under pressure to meet project deadlines;
- Working knowledge of regular financial and procurement processes, preferably in construction or engineering projects is an asset;
- Solid report writing, communication and presentation skills;
- Effective problem-solving skills with a results-oriented approach;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Good work ethic and strong attitude towards safety;
- Sound interpersonal and management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team of employees;
- Experience working at a remote work site is considered an asset;
- Experience working in SAP or similar Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
