About the role
The Underwriting Technician team analyzes, prepares and reviews written aspects of our travel insurance products for compliance and adherence. This will include creating fulfillment documents based on approved insurance forms, analyzing requests for new products against approved forms, and reviewing printed and electronic content which describes our products to ensure accuracy and compliance. This document analyst position will primarily be doing technical work on our policy documents to make them usable with screen reading technology.
This position will involve:
- Working with the department Subject Matter Expert to learn the process of making our documents compliant.
- Utilizing Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat to make detailed, technical changes to the underlying structure of files that will be posted in PDF format.
- Updating and maintaining guides and manuals on the process.
- Developing an understanding of department processes to be able to communicate timelines and request additional assistance as needed.
- As time allows, opportunities exist for formal accreditation in document accessibility.
- Learn basics of standard Policy document creation, both for context within this position and to chip in during high volume projects.
What we are looking for
A qualified candidate will have the following:
- Must possess clear, concise and professional verbal and written communication abilities, including the ability to adjust communication based on the audience.
- Must be proficient in all MS Office programs, especially MS Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel.
- Experience with Adobe InDesign (document layout software), or a well-developed ability to learn this highly technical program is required.
- Ability to use markup tools and document editing (tags, bookmarks, etc.) in Adobe Acrobat is required.
- Must be able to function with a high degree of independent judgment.
- Must understand, or be able and willing to learn, the Matterhorn Protocol 1.1 PDF standard & WCAG 2.0/2.1 web compliance principles, including design elements, document tagging, document structuring, alternate image text, etc.
- It is not expected for the candidate to be fluent in all of these programs immediately at hire; we can teach all of the steps involved. The most important qualities of all are comfort with technical systems and a willingness to learn.
