About the role

As the Senior Engineer Ground Software, you will work closely with a large and inclusive team of technical experts focused on success. Reporting to Team Lead Ground Software you will be responsible for developing and delivering software solutions, using a systems engineering design philosophy.

These software solutions include desktop applications, databases, simulations, mobile applications and Mixed Reality (Augmented and Virtual Reality) applications.

Specifically you will:

• Develop software to support and enhance capabilities of aircraft training simulators.
• Conduct analysis on aircraft software upgrades to understand their impact on Ground-based training simulators.
• Undertake Technical Information Reviews and code reviews within your scope.
• Liaise between internal teams, Project Managers, subcontractors and customer to ensure timely delivery of software products.
• Maintain ownership of tasks/projects, take leadership and mentor junior engineers.
• Develop engineering instructions, investigations and other artefacts in accordance with the delegated Engineering Authority.
• Maintain data files, engineering records and electronic databases as required to accurately report and record engineering decisions.
• Comply with relevant Quality and Engineering Management plans, processes and procedure as required.

About you

To be successful in this role, it is a requirement to be able to work in a team environment, have well developed relationship skills as well as good verbal and written skills. You will need to be someone who is able to work autonomously towards tight deadlines and work comfortably in a continuous improvement work environment. Ideally, we are looking for someone who can hit the ground running. The skills and experience best suited to this role:

Essential

• Recognised Bachelors (or higher) degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or any other related stream.
• Professional software engineering experience preferably within aviation industry or any other safety-critical industry.
• Strong knowledge in C, C++, Ada with Object Oriented techniques.
• Comfortable with Linux based environments and bash/perl/python scripting knowledge.
• Understanding and designing in accordance with open architecture of systems/software.
• Solid understanding of full Software Development Life Cycle.
• Australian Citizenship with the ability to obtain Defence security clearance.

Desirable

• Exposure to Simulink, Realtime systems and embedded firmware architecture.
• High level languages such as C#, iOS development, AR/VR development and awareness of 3D development.
• Knowledge of applicable legislative and regulatory frameworks (i.e. DASR, CASA, etc.)
• Understanding of maintenance and engineering cost drivers and how to ensure cost effectiveness
• Knowledge of operational excellence, managing a service-oriented organisation and delivering on service targets
