Machine learning (ML) has been strategic to Amazon from the early years. We are pioneers in areas such as recommendation engines, product search, eCommerce fraud detection, and large-scale optimization of fulfillment center operations.

The Generative AI team helps AWS customers accelerate the use of Generative AI to solve business, operational and mission challenges and promote innovation in their organization. The Center’s Public Sector team focuses on supporting the missions of US Federal customers in particular. As an applied scientist, you are proficient in designing and developing advanced ML models to solve diverse challenges and opportunities. You will be working with terabytes of text, images, and other types of data to solve real-world problems. You’ll design and run experiments, research new algorithms, and find new ways of optimizing risk, profitability, and customer experience.

We’re looking for talented scientists capable of applying ML algorithms and cutting-edge deep learning (DL) and reinforcement learning approaches to areas such as drug discovery, customer segmentation, fraud prevention, capacity planning, predictive maintenance, pricing optimization, call center analytics, player pose estimation, event detection, and virtual assistant among others.

This position requires the candidate selected be a US citizen.

AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS) is responsible for driving revenue, adoption, and growth from the largest and fastest growing small- and mid-market accounts to enterprise-level customers including public sector. The AWS Global Support team interacts with leading companies and believes that world-class support is critical to customer success. AWS Support also partners with a global list of customers that are building mission-critical applications on top of AWS services.

Key job responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

• Design, develop, and evaluate innovative ML models to solve diverse challenges and opportunities across industries

• Interact with customer directly to understand their business problems, and help them with defining and implementing scalable Generative AI solutions to solve them

• Work closely with account teams, research scientist teams, and product engineering teams to drive model implementations and new solution

Basic Qualifications

• 1. 5+ years of data science, machine learning, and deep learning experience.
• 1. Recent hands-on keyboard data science and ML experience and current experience with Python.
• 1. US Citizenship
• 1. Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience or Master’s degree and 4 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 1. Experience with (A) Natural Language Processing and Large Language Models (LLMs) and/or (B) other Generative AI topics like image generation or image captioning or (C) with RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) solutions.
• 1. Experience working for or interfacing with any of the following customer types: FedCiv, DoD, NatSec, EdTech, University Health Medical Centers.
• 1. Experience with AWS as a platform for building and deploying ML solutions or building ML prototypes from initial ideation.
• 1. PhD with ML publications are a plus but are not required if candidates have been working in industries or with employers that cannot publish.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $222,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
