Global Business Consulting (GBC) is the consulting arm of American Express Global Business Travel. GBC brings the talent, tools and management consulting skills needed to lead our client’s T&E spend and improve their return on investment. GBC focuses on business and operational strategy, strategic sourcing and program optimization to help our clients manage their travel spend. Our specialized expertise includes: Policy, Change Management & Compliance, Travel Program Management, Business Intelligence, Travel Category Management (Air, Car and Hotel) and Cost Management.
The GBC team consists of Consultants from a wide variety of backgrounds such as Air/Hotel/Ground industries, travel, management consulting, IT consulting and general management.
The primary area of focus for the position will be related to the Hotel practice line which spans corporate hotel program strategy design and execution including sourcing, program compliance, and optimization.
What You’ll Do:
This Consulting Manager will lead several consulting project workstreams across multiple clients. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with consulting, project management and industry experience. The Consulting Manager will be driving the following:
Engagement Execution:
Effectively implement multi-workstream engagements, prioritize client requests and work objectives maximising appropriate project management methodologies and tools such as project plans and issue logs. Experience in applying organizational change techniques to drive sustainable engagement impact and ROI. Creates results within established engagement scope, quality standards and time frames
Hotel subject matter expertise including knowledge of RFP tools (Cvent, Sabre RFP, ReadyBid, etc.)
Problem Solving & Analysis:
Develops hypotheses and identifies data to evaluate based on client needs. Reviews and validates analyses, develops options/alternatives and creates insightful recommendations in context of total engagement. Strong innovative mentality.
Deep understanding of both TMC travel data and supplier/third party data (Air/Hotel/Car rental supplier, Corporate Card, Expense, etc.)
Familiarity with data visualization tools and reporting (i.e., Tableau)
Ability to create custom models and scenarios using available datasets
Communication and Relationship Management:
Exceptional interpersonal skills, listening ability and written presentation skills. Ability to deal with ambiguity and present/discuss work results in a compelling manner. Distills sophisticated subject matter into key messages for team members and clients
Leads global supplier relationships – representing both customer & consultancy interests
Understands client organization and dynamics. Builds strong working relationships with all key stakeholders.
Leverages American Express Global Business Travel and available industry tools and solutions to develop best-in-class deliverables and standard processes.
Successfully navigate large global client organizations (i.e., 40+ points of sale, $150M in spend, multiple client stakeholders) and articulate the value delivered through project work to all levels of client stakeholder.
Team Guidance and Support:
Operate in a team-oriented environment with a strong sense of responsibility toward team members, engagement objectives and practice line development
Partner with, manage and mentor consulting analysts
Experience & understanding of the Travel industry
Own retention of existing clients and revenue; upsell and cross sell Consulting solutions to new and existing customers driving increased revenue and maintain profitability across all growth opportunities
What We’re Looking For:
3-5 years’ experience in a traditional consulting and/or Hotel strategy, sourcing and optimization role.
Knowledge of strategy, financial/business operations, cost management preferred.
Experience in the travel industry is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, MBA strongly preferred, PMI certification a plus
Experience managing hotel programs through platforms such as Cvent and data visualization solutions
Strong skills in data interpretation and presentation execution using data visualization tools such as Tableau, Birst, Power BI or others.
Demonstrated ability to think conceptually, using strong analytical skills; ability to evaluate alternatives and recommend client solutions
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite of tools with a concentration in Excel and PowerPoint
Strong communication skills that should include internal and external presentation development and delivery

The US national annual base salary range for this position is from $70,000 to $140,000. The national range provided includes the base salary that GBT expects to pay for the role. Actual base salary will be based on factors including the scope and complexity of the role and the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and work location.
