JOB TITLE: Medical AssistantDEPARTMENT: NursingREPORTS TO: Practice Manager/Clinical LeadFLSA (TBD by HR): Full time, Non-ExemptJOB PURPOSE:The Medical Assistant will work as a member of the primaryhealth care support team to provide quality medical aid to Jordan Center patients. This Medical Assistant job description reflects positions in various departments including but not limited to: Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Optometry, Podiatry, MAAT, PPC and Obstetrics. Duties specific to departments that are outside of those included in this job description are outlined in separate addenda. The Medical Assistant will adhere to standards and policies established by AJHC and perform the duties up to limits prescribed by Office of Professions.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential functions):Result #1:Jordan Health patients receive high quality, consistent, competent, patient- centered care.· Create a culturally competent atmosphere of patient care respectful of a patient’s holistic needs (cultural, physical, psychosocial, etc.).· Aid in improving patient customer service experience through communication with patients and families.· Provide education to patients related to areas within Medical Assistant scope (i.e. the importance of keeping medical appointments, taking medications, taking accurate vital signs). · Document tasks according to current Jordan Health guidelines and assigned team specifics (i.e. OB/Gyn, Family Medicine).Items include but are not limited to: the principal complaint or reason for the visit, vital signs).· Perform Pre-visit Planning according to most current Jordan Center and team specific guidelines to effectively prepare for patient care session. · Procure lab, imaging, referral and other data results/elements as requested by clinician prior to patient appointment or at the time of appointment (from EHR, RHIO, iSTOP, NYSIIS and other internal and external sources).· Report to the clinician any significant social or other information obtained during conversation with patient or his/her family.· Maintain an adequate supply of medical, nursing and laboratory supplies and orders as needed on a routine basis. Alerts appropriate personnel when there are mechanical failures of equipment. Keeps exam rooms and work areas clean and well stocked according to established standards.
Use technology and office resource tools efficiently, accurately and effectively to perform the job.
Assist in reviewing patient’s records for any gaps in care related to measurable goals and appropriate patient care.
Perform outreach to patients according to Jordan Center and team specific guidelines (i.e. calling a patient to close gaps in care).
Schedule follow up appointments with Jordan resource as requested by clinician, team member, patient or manager.
Result #2: Patient flow to clinicians and service staff based on appointment arrangements allows Jordan Health to serve optimal number of patients.
Communicate compassionately and without judgement with patients who’ve “no showed” an the care team.
Communicate with clinical support staff about patient flow and updating electronic health record (EHR) as necessary (ex. patients who may arrive late).
Communicate with patients regarding operational/team delays when possible in a caring and non-critical manner (ex. wait times, etc.).
Result #3 The Medical Assistant is a strong Jordan team player.
· Work collaboratively with all internal and external team members at the top of certification.· Cross train and then float to other departments as needed/requested by supervisor or Practice Manager.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing assigned tasks with accuracy, actively participating in group meetings and assisting others as necessary
Assist in training new Jordan Health members to effectively contribute to team success
Maintain a positive attitude with patients and co-workers to promote an effective team approach to patient care
Assist with daily operational duties such as but not limited to: opening and closing clinical area, fire safety procedures, calling housekeeping/maintenance, etc.
Result #4: Jordan Health is in full compliance with all requirements related to provision of care.
Attending all staff/department meetings, team huddles and department/site meetings, and completing in-service and annual training
Adhering to all policies on safety and security; maintaining restricted areas safe by safeguarding keyless entry codes and computer system passwords in strict confidentiality
Practicing confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance with Jordan health policies and HIPAA requirements
Checking Jordan Health email at least daily

The jobholder’s work is reviewed by:Practice Manager and Clinical ChiefEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:· American Association ofMedical Assistants(AAMA) certificationLICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:· Current BLS/CPR· Infection Control CertificateSPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:· Excellent computer skills· Excellent customer service skills· Interviewing techniques (as this applies to interviewing patients/families for data gathering)· Strong communication and inter-professional skills· Problem solving abilities · Bilingual or multilingual status may be required based on needs of department/ organization and will be specified at the time of posting or interviewThis position requires compliance with Jordan Health’s Compliance Program, compliance Code of Conduct, and its written policies, procedures and protocols (collectively, the “Written Standards”). Such compliance will be an essential element considered as part of regular performance evaluation of the Compliance Database Librarian. Failure to comply with the Written Standards (which includes the failure to report any conduct or event that potentially violates legal or compliance requirements of the Written Standards) will be met by the enforcement of disciplinary action, up to and including possible termination of employment, in accordance with Jordan Health’s Compliance Program Policy and Procedure–Addressing Instances of Non-Compliance Through Appropriate Disciplinary Actions.
