Site Reliability Engineer, Platform Engineering

What will your day look like?
We’re doing things differently for the cloud. You will apply SRE principles to ensure we monitor and measure what is important, you will automate our platforms and services for reliable operations at scale, including automation of our security and governance controls. Assist development teams to apply the same principles to achieve quality in their releases and will be a subject matter expert on running services well on the cloud, sharing this experience with engineers across the organisation. We use many of the latest and greatest open source tools, so you will need to be comfortable with constantly learning new tools and techniques along with running proof of concept evaluations to keep us on the leading edge. We’ll turn to you for suggestions on how to improve the platforms, processes and tools. We expect that you already have great ideas you can share at our cloud guilds & user groups, along with industry Meetups.

What’s in your toolkit?

• Experience in building and running systems on the Cloud
• AWS, GCP or Azure (we’re mainly GCP)
• Comfortable in coding in one of the following: Go, Python, Powershell, Java, Ruby or bash scripting
• Kubernetes/OpenShift
• Proficient with Docker
• Infrastructure as Code via Terraform, Cloudformation
• Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Google Cloud Build, Buildkite, Jenkins

Extra skills you’ll use here:

• Experience in alert and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, New Relic, Dynatrace
• Logging tools such as Splunk
• Apache Beam, Kafka
• Advise, design and implement cloud security, availability and reliability best practices
• Work with operations and architecture groups developing scalable and supportable solutions

None of our engineers have all the skills above, they all code. The particular language and tools used are not as important as your development skills and learning aptitude.
