Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield and Newcastle.
We offer a wide-ranging curriculum to our Further Education students, including Agriculture, Horticulture, Agriculture, Animal Management, Countryside and the Environment, Engineering, Equine, Floristry, Motorsport, Professional Tree Surgery, Outdoor Adventure Sport, Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness and Uniformed Public Services.
We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our Student Services Department here at our York campus. We are seeking an individual who will be the first point of contact for students who need some support. The Student Services Team is split into Student Support Services, Residential Services and the Employability Team. This role will be working with the support services and the residential team, resulting in an exciting and varied role and working with students to ensure they receive the mental health and wellbeing support they need in order to achieve their potential at College.
The successful candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills allowing them to offer the students the support they need (or refer on to external agencies) to attend College and achieve their full potential. The role is extremely varied and will include many different tasks including giving students advice and guidance on wellbeing matters, dealing with referrals from course managers, managing the counselling provision at College, attending multi agency meetings where appropriate and developing resources to enable students to help themselves.
The successful applicant should have a good standard of written English and be able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people. They should have excellent knowledge in mental health and experience in dealing with distressed young people. They will value accurate data and understand the importance of detail and accuracy when recording information.
