Full Time, Permanent
Make a meaningful impact on people’s lives with life-changing medicines.
Join the team where everyone feels a personal connection to the people that we impact. From our science labs to manufacturing at scale, we are committed to delivering at the highest quality. It’s inspiring and rewarding work, influencing every part of the product lifecycle to deliver life-changing medicines. Ultimately to make people’s lives better – from patients and their families to all of us in society!
The manufacture of small molecule Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) is changing, with the molecules in our pipeline becoming much more complex. In addition, shorter development time, lower commercial volumes, and increased focus on delivering carbon zero processes demand an innovative approach.
In response, we are investing in an internal API Commercialisation capability (APICOM) built on our Alexion Dublin Manufacturing Campus in Ireland. This flexible, groundbreaking facility will manufacture low volume, high value, high potency APIs for late phase clinical, launch and early commercial supply. It will use both batch and continuous manufacturing technology, incorporating a high level of automation and digital solutions.
This is what you will do:
Initially, the Senior Automation Engineer will be part of a team providing technical support to ensure the design of this facility is safe and efficient, and that long term operability is factored in. They will play a critical role in the successful IT/OT integration and implementation of automation systems within the new API manufacturing plant project.
They will support the client team and act as a liaison between the client team, project team, and stakeholders to ensure flawless operation and integration of automation systems in compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
Longer term, as a member of the APICOM operations team, the Senior Automation Engineer will be responsible for providing technical leadership across all the automation systems within the facility. They will be accountable for the compliance, performance, and sustainable operation of the automation systems.
This position requires a strong technical background in automation systems, and the capability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
You will need to have:
Degree level or equivalent in Engineering/Computer Science
Problem solving experience and skills
Significant experience within the automation industry supporting GMP environments and applications
Direct experience of the DeltaV process automation platform. Direct experience in leading and working alongside system integrators
Experience of developing scope and estimations to support automation system updates
Proven experience in supporting a manufacturing facility
Experience of implementing change controls and investigating deviations/events
Experience of integration with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
Comprehensive understanding of cGMP requirements for clinical and commercial manufacturing and the ability to implement best practices (GAMP) to ensure site automation systems are cGMP compliant.
Full understanding of automation system implementation and validation life cycle along with an understanding of the product quality impact of changes
We would prefer for you to have:
GMP and regulatory knowledge/awareness
Experience with OSI PI data historian, SQL Server and visualisation platforms is a plus, as is IT experience.
Experience of system integration using industrial protocols.
Knowledge of DCS design and experience of developing system architectures to support New Product Introduction (NPI).
Awareness of Manufacturing Master Data Management and High-level data ontologies.
