He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Situated in our Howick Leisure Centre, as a Recreation Assistant no two days will be the same! You’ll help us deliver an exciting range of basketball activities, school holiday programmes, and other sporting activities.

In this frontline role, your responsibilities will include, basketball referee, basketball coaching, delivering exceptional service to our customers and visitors supporting with the delivery of a variety of exciting programmes for children, helping the Centre maintain a caring, fun and safe fitness and leisure environment, providing assistance to Centre management with administration and operational duties; and supporting with Centre activities including sporting leagues and daily timetabled programmes

You’ll already be passionate about sports and recreation, and ready to step into a frontline customer service role. It goes without saying that you’ll be responsible when it comes to working with children. You’ll have a flexible approach and be able to use your initiative to facilitate suitable programmes for kids. An enthusiastic team player, you’ll have a positive attitude and infectious energy, and be committed to providing your customers with an exceptional experience.

Ideally, you’ll hold a First Aid Certificate and understand health and safety procedures however we can provide training for this. While previous experience working with children is beneficial, it’s not essential. Importantly, you’ll be committed to maintaining a high degree of professionalism in your work.

This is a part time opportunity, so you’ll need to work flexible hours 1pm – 9pm weekdays, or between 8.30 – 6.00pm Saturday / Sunday.

We aim to upskill and progress your career, so you can train and take on other functions within our centres, such as Lifeguard, Fitness Instructor or Customer Service Rep. By the same token, if we occasionally need some help in other areas such as on our front desk and general customer service duties, as a team member, you may be called on to cover these areas if short staffed or at peak periods.
