The Bureau of Meteorology provides essential flood warning services across Australia. The services are delivered from the regional Flood Warning Centres that provide flood forecasts, flood warnings and supporting information products.
The Bureau as part of its aim to improve and enhance current forecasting services implemented the Next Generation Hydrological Forecasting System (HyFS) to support the national hydrological forecasting requirements for flood and short term streamflow forecasting. HyFS provides the capability to support current forecasting techniques, while also having the capacity to evolve to utilise new advances in hydrological science.
The Bureau is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Flood Forecasting Applications Development unit of the Data and Digital (DDG) Application Services Program.
You will be a key member of the technical delivery team with responsibility in developing software components and systems that will form part of the Bureau’s next-generation Flood Forecasting systems. These systems include both modelling systems and data systems with a focus on the efficient delivery, processing and management of real-time hydrological observation data.
The position will involve working with existing Bureau mission-critical systems, new COTS software and new software development using agile software development processes and DevOps release and operational support processes.
You will work closely with other Flood Forecasting project staff. This will include other ICT technical staff and hydrologists who form part of Flood Forecasting ICT project implementation teams. You will also liaise with staff in other Bureau ICT sections, to ensure a co-ordinated approach to system delivery and support.
