RAIL LOADER

Rail Loaders are responsible for preparing Canadian National Railway (CN) rail cars for loading, driving customers finished product (STELLANTIS Dodge Challengers and Chargers) onto tri-level rail cars, and securing the vehicles for transportation.
Rate of Pay: $21.07 per hour, increase to $22.18 per hour after 720 hours
Status: Full time Permanent
Hours: Dayshift, scheduled 6 days a week (Monday through Saturday). Expect overtime and work on holidays

Essential Functions, Duties and Tasks:
· Prepare the rail car for loading
· Ensure that hand brakes are in place
· Make sure Blue Flag protection is up
· Install the bridge plates between the rail cars
· Drive the vehicle onto the loading ramp and into the rail car
· Park the vehicle, place the seat in the fully back position, place the seat cover, and turn all accessories off
· Turn the vehicle off and exit the vehicle without causing damage
· Raise/lower or remove bridge plates as needed
· Exit the vehicle and connect the appropriate amount of chock blocks behind the wheels of the vehicle
· Strap the wheels connecting the chock blocks
· Use a ratchet to appropriately tighten the straps
· Pulling pins/levers to drop the hinge deck lid after you load a deck
· Exit the train by climbing down the ladder railings on the outside of the rail car
· Ensure the loading equipment has been properly inspected
· Check vehicles for any damage and report to Supervisor or Manager
· Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment, this includes tooling, work vans, rail yard, etc.
Working Conditions:
· Work conducted outside in all types of weather, including extreme weather conditions
· Work at a fast pace
· Work in tight spaces
· Personal Protective Equipment provided includes safety vest, gloves, kneepads, and coveralls
This is a physically demanding position, physical requirements include:
· Ability to get in/out of vehicles driver side door with minimal door opening clearance (only 12”)
· Good sense of balance, working at a height of approximately 15 ft. above ground
· Climbing (climbing up or down a ladder on the side of the rail car to enter or exit the train)
· Carrying & lifting, including above head (chock blocks weigh 3.5-4 kg/8-9 lbs., bridge plates weigh approx. 23 kg/50 lbs., ratchets weigh 1 kg/2 lbs.)
· Reaching (bridge plates are passed from below to overhead when placing them on the highest level(s) of the rail cars
· Pushing & pulling (pins on deck lids are pulled out and chock blocks are secured by pushing on a pin with the thumb or finger, with 9 kg/20lbs of force. Ratcheting, tension in the handle at the highest point of tension on the chock block 12 kg/27 lbs.)
· Gripping (holding steering wheel, gripping rungs of the ladder while climbing using 3-points of contact, grip force while climbing onto the train must be at least ½ of the body weight, holding ratchet handle with hands while tightening requiring a grip force of at least 12 kg/27 lbs.)
· Stoop, crouch, bend (any worker taller than 160 cm/ 5’ 3” must bend the neck and/or body to walk through tri-level rail cars, work with chock blocks on the floor of the rail car)
· Kneel, squat, crawl (while working with chock blocks and straps)
· Sitting (driving vehicle)
· Standing & Walking (working inside rail cars, walking in the yard)
· Good visual ability
· Good hearing ability
Education, Experience, and Minimum Requirements:
· High school diploma, or equivalent
· Minimum 1-year heavy labour experience
· Ability to drive both automatic and manual transmission vehicles
· Valid full G driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
· Ability to use hand tools (e.g., wrench, screwdriver, hammer, ratchet, etc.)
· Ability to read, write and interpret documents
· Ability to pass third party Pre-employment Medical Assessment
· Background check including Driver’s Abstract and Criminal Record Check
