We are in search of a QA Specialist providing hardworking, detail-oriented work. The prime candidate will have an educational or experiential background in Quality Assurance within the food manufacturing industry. They will prepare documentation and records for quality programs, shipments, certifications and supplier records. Flexible, self-accountable, and has the ability to take action when a product’s quality is in question. This individual will be responsible for filling an essential role in the monitoring and advancement of food quality and safety programs. To ensure the integrity of products through daily process checks as well as short and long-term projects. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively alone but also work well with fellow team members and the operations team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Update, maintain, and control quality documentation
• Liaise with vendors and manufacturing facilities to ensure all required documentation is received and provided in good order and in a timely manner.
• Ensures shipment specific documentation such as COAs are received, filed and distributed to the appropriate internal and external members such as Quality Assurance.
• Supports the qualification process for new vendors and items (ingredients or packaging).
• Support the development and implementation of improved quality reporting measures.
• Support quality related customer complaint investigations and trending activities.
• Maintain and control all sourcing, purchasing and manufacturing records.
• Builds and maintains internal vendor profiles and in conjunction with Supply Chain and Manufacturing teams collects supplier feedback. ISO supplier evaluation standards.
• Follows up with system users as needed to obtain compliance and record follow-up activities.
• Ensures all manufacturing certifications in record are current and up to date.
• Supports and performs visits/audits to manufacturing facilities, suppliers as required.
• Supports the work of the QA Director on special projects.
• Addresses sales inquiries whether deriving from opportunities, customer or consumer inquires.
• Provides administrative and clerical support with speed and accuracy. Including year-end counts.
• Carries out other related duties as required.
• Perform production line QA/QC functions as required. Conduct relevant physical, chemical and organoleptic testing on ingredients, raw materials, and finished product.
• Manage sample collection per production run. Collect samples at various stages of production.
• Perform Pre-operational and/ or during production cleanliness inspection. Perform various swabbing for product safety monitoring
• Identify, report and investigate any deviation to procedure, system or standard and assist with implementing corrective actions and follow ups
• Perform and assist in administrating internal and external lab testing and test result documenting
• Participate or assist in employee Food Safety and Quality training
• Participate in compliance of CFIA and Health regulations, and customer’s requirements through inspections or audits of the facility to ensure food safety and quality standards are met
• Liaise with other departmental management to meet food safety and quality compliance, and provide assistance to other departments as needed or requested

• Inspect incoming raw materials and approve/disapprove their release; administrate records and verify all external or suppliers’ documents Document reports, complaints, departmental requests and assist with all administrative functions associated with this role.
• Assist in the continual implementation and improvement of food safety programs such as SQF, HACCP and HACCP Prerequisite Programs

Qualifications:

Education: Diploma or Certificate in a relevant area is desired

Experience:

• At least 3 years in document control, change control, or other quality system.
• Preference will be given to individuals with experience in the Food & Beverage Industry.
• Exposure to Food Safety Systems and HACCP are an asset.
• PCQI training and certificate is preferred
• Knowledge of import/ export documentation preferred.
• Working knowledge of certifications such as Non-GMO, Organic, Gluten Free etc.
• Excellent computer skills, experience with SAP is an asset.
• Very good oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Superior attention to detail and strong admin skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary: $17.00-$20.00 per hour
