Barnardo’s Hiring for Project Worker – MARAC at Halesowen B Full Time

Barnardo’s has a service hub in the Black Country located in Halesowen from which our workers can operate. Travel across the Dudley Borough will be required.

History of Service

We are a long-established Domestic Abuse and Violence service in the Dudley Borough. We provide children and young people a therapeutic programme of support who have been identified as high risk through the MARAC (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference) screening process. Support can be provided through 1:1 direct work, Children and young people’s group work or as a family model of intervention.

The service aims to empower children and young people who are victims of domestic abuse and violence to reach their full potential, to value themselves and have their voices heard.

This post forms part of a wider Mental Health and Well-being offer delivered by Barnardo’s across the Black Country Locality.

Objectives of Service

• As a service we work through a trauma informed lens recognising the potential impact trauma can have when supporting vulnerable children. Domestic abuse is recognised as a stressful event or as a traumatic experience linking to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s).
• For Barnardo’s to attend fortnightly MARAC meetings with a number of other key agencies and partners to share vital information and develop the best way to work with children, young people and their families.
• To deliver a therapeutic programme of support to children and young people between the ages of 5-13 years who have been victims of high-risk domestic abuse and violence.
• To improve outcomes for children and young people, the therapeutic work that takes place has the common thread of participation, choice, and the voice of the child throughout, this is so the children can be heard, and their lived experience validated.
• Children, young people, and their families are involved in making a positive contribution by making a choice to use the service, through reviews, providing their views in written or picture form about the activities, Barnardo’s workers, and the service in general.

Initial Specific Responsibilities

• To have experience, knowledge and skills of working with children and young people who have experienced a stressful event or a traumatic experience linking to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s).
• To deliver a therapeutic programme of intervention to children and young people who are victims of domestic abuse and violence.
• To be responsible for a caseload, recording and effective diary management.
• To attend fortnightly MARAC meetings and generate referrals for the service.
• To work in partnership with external agencies such as children’s social care, health and education.
• To ensure child protection and safeguarding issues are appropriately recorded and shared in line with Barnardo’s policies and procedures.
• To contribute to Servicedevelopment.
• Willing to undertake training in specialist areas when requested.
• To participate in Barnardo’s supervision with the line manager and clinical supervision with an external supervisor.

You will have (essential criteria):

• Experience of Safeguarding.
• Experience of working with children and young people who have experienced a stressful event or a traumatic experience linking to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s).
• Experience of working with children and young people who have been victims of domestic abuse and violence.
