Senior Director Early Licensing Officer
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Director Early Licensing Officer, are to:
Responsible for the entire licensing process, i.e: search, identification, evaluation, term sheet and contract negotiation for bringing in new business opportunities of significant value for the Oncology portfolio and working with various stakeholders to provide a comprehensive view of available partnering options to select the best possible partner and model for the relationship;
Act as a primary point of contact and “external face” of Bayer to the partner;
Build, maintain and leverage a worldwide network of potential partners to create new portfolio opportunities (in-licensing, out-licensing, co-development, acquisitions in collaboration with the M&A team) that meet the Bayer’s strategic objectives;
Represent Bayer Pharma at the relevant Oncology and BD conferences;
Build and maintain a strong understanding of and collaboration with the Bayer internal organization and your key stakeholders;
Partner with the Oncology R&D and Business Unit to develop and refine strategy such that the BD efforts are always in sync with strategy and can provide a feedback loop to informing the strategy;
Identify and evaluate external opportunities and make the case for a collaboration with Bayer as the preferred partner;
Represent the company in partnering discussions and negotiations as a ‘Partner of Choice’;
Agree with partner on basic terms of potential collaboration i.e. scope and objective of collaboration, future responsibilities, structure and the financial package;
Lead and coordinate multifunctional assessment and diligence of external opportunities (i.e. strategic rationale, patents, technological strength development costs and timelines, projected competitiveness, economic potential, development and commercial risks);
Drive the execution and analyze potential compliance issues of any contractual agreement on a global basis;
Have in close alignment with the legal department and our customers negotiate the contract of a potential collaboration;
Collaborate and drive the decision-making regarding specific business opportunities with various internal partners (e.g.:Legal, Patents, R&D, Finance, Manufacturing, Commercial) towards the maximization of the value of Bayer’s partnerships and alliances;
Present the deal to the governance bodies (2-3) for concurrence and approval;
Summarize duties and responsibilities for the implementation of a partnership via alliance management;
Serve as an ongoing internal champion of these partnerships as needed and support that all stakeholders are kept informed and fulfil their obligations towards the success of the partnerships;
Support the Alliance Management function following their established processes and applying their alliance management tools;
Position can be based in Whippany, NJ or Boston, MA.

Required Qualifications:
M.D., PH.D., Pharmacy Degree or Advanced degree preferred in life sciences
7+ years of broad pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience, with sound knowledge of the drug discovery process, industry trends and competitive practices, (an equivalent combination of education and experience can supersede the requirements);
Experience in evaluating pharmaceutical licensing opportunities as well as deal structure development, negotiations and completing transactions;
Effective understanding of the pharmaceutical industry licensing process;
Experience in licensing transactions for drug discovery technologies or early-stage products in the area of Oncology;
Direct experience in managing relationships and interfacing with Biotech partners as an articulate communicator with strong negotiation skills;
Proven ability to build and maintain effective internal and external partnerships;
Proficient planning and organizational skills and an ability to handle multiple priorities;
History of working in complex and multicultural team environments with numerous / diverse stakeholders with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships throughout all levels of the organization;
Highly driven with a strong motivation to succeed, detail oriented, and a great team player with convincing leadership qualities;
Ability to set clear priorities and give respective guidance to the team;
Have strengths in creating clear organizational and procedural structures within the group;
Strong commitment to customer service and satisfaction;
Have a reputation for having the highest personal integrity and character;
