Position Summary

Bayswater College offers English language courses to students for whom English is not a first language to both overseas and local students. This focus of this role is to manage the English Language Provision in our London school, using leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of every student at Bayswater College

Key duties & responsibilities

General Leadership

• Lead the academic side of the school, managing the ADoS and Teaching team
• Understand and be able to communicate the vision and mission of Bayswater College.
• Work with the Centre Manager to establish a school culture and climate conducive to learning for all students and all staff.
• Keep the Centre Manager abreast of any issues within the school

Teacher Recruitment and Enrolment

• Lead recruitment of teaching staff in line with student enrolments, paying due attention to the qualification requirements set out by the relevant regulatory bodies, and company policy with regards to DBS, reference checks and work rights.
• Ensure that all new teachers receive a contract and thorough induction before starting.
• Organise cover for absent teachers ensuring that cover teachers have sufficient information on what is to be taught.
• Keep records of teachers’ hours and absences for payroll purposes.

Academic Management and Teaching

• Supervise the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
• Ensure teachers are up to date with administrative procedures including registers, tutorials, weekly reviews, weekly tests and data entry.
• Make sure that teachers produce appropriate weekly plans in a timely way.
• Authorise holiday requests while maintaining optimum staffing levels.
• Observe and appraise all teaching staff in line with company policy.
• Carry out disciplinary procedures where necessary with teaching staff.
• Play a leading role in the staff CPD and promote external seminars.
• Conduct weekly teachers’ meetings and record meeting minutes.
• Line manage all ELT staff, including if required any Senior Teachers or ADoS.
• Supervise all activities and programmes that are outgrowths of the school’s curriculum, including potentially in other campuses.
• Teach English as required, in agreement with the Centre Manager.

Course and Resource Management

• Contribute to course book selection and manage ordering and invoices.
• Assist in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum.
• Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.
• Allocate, acquire, and develop teacher resources and ensure that they are accessible.
• Keep resources organised so teachers can access them efficiently.
• Work with the Group Academic Development Manager to ensure best practice in the school and contribute to projects

Academic Administration

• Maintain optimal class sizes and optimal nationality mixes where possible.
• Allocate teachers to classes according to timetable needs and teacher skills.
• Ensure that students are classed appropriately when they join and are moved when necessary.
• Ensure students are given access to self-study materials.
• Manage the academic provision for closed groups.
• Listen to student queries and respond appropriately, counselling where necessary on language level, class options, etc.

Operations

• Assist Centre Manager in maintaining British Council accredited status.
• Implement and observe all policies and regulations by the school’s staff and students.
• Maintain high standards of student welfare and
• Enforce discipline as necessary, according due process to the rights of students.
• Attend conferences and training days, mutually agreed upon with the Centre Manager.
• Liaise with group leaders and agents on visits to the college.
• The post holder will carry out any other reasonable duties.

Knowledge, Qualification and Experience

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
• Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Cert TESOL (TEFL-I status)
• Cambridge Delta or Trinity Dip TESOL or equivalent (TEFL-Q status)

Desirable

• MA Applied Linguistics and ELT/TESOL
• Experience of teaching exam preparation courses
• Experience of teaching ESPs, such as Business, Academic English
• Experience of working with juniors
• Experience of teacher development/teacher training
• Experience of preparing for British Council inspections
• Experience of administering Guided E-Learning
