The Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions leads the Province of British Columbia in efforts to improve the mental well-being and reduce substance use-related harms for all British Columbians. The ministry has overall responsibility for the development of a coherent, accessible, and culturally safe mental health and addictions system that is effective for individuals and families across the lifespan throughout the province. The ministry is also responsible for escalating an immediate response to the province’s overdose emergency. The ministry aims to strengthen social supports and services that impact mental health and well-being (for example, housing, employment, income, education, and childcare) by undertaking a whole-government, multi-systems approach in partnership with other ministries, service delivery partners, researchers, other levels of government, families, youth, people with lived experience and Indigenous Peoples.
The Child, Youth and Mental Health Policy Division is accountable for policies and strategies that lead to the development of a coherent, accessible, and culturally safe mental health and addictions system that is effective for individuals and families across the lifespan throughout the province. The division provides leadership, expertise and advice regarding legislation, policy, governance, accountability, and stakeholder relations for committees, ministries and the broader social sectors impacting mental wellness.
The Provincial Support Office is responsible for the operational implementation and delivery of integrated child and youth teams, a new and innovative model of community-based mental health and substance use services to young people and their families in British Columbia. These multi-disciplinary teams will be connected to a cluster of schools and serve young people in locations where they feel most comfortable. Team members will be comprised of child and youth clinicians, youth substance use practitioners, school counsellors, peer support workers and Indigenous support workers.
To provide general administrative, clerical and program support to the division.
