Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing, the Nurse Manager, Afternoons is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the operation of the patient care on afternoon shift, ensuring that quality patient care is provided. Responsible for patient care management, human resource utilization, and the operational management of the nursing units. Provides clinical and administrative direction to the nursing staff on afternoon shift.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Responsible for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the delivery of nursing care on all units which may include departmental documentation on medical records; nursing supplies; ancillary supplies or services; care plans; MDS’s; Skin Care Program; Restraint Reduction; Nutrition; Fall Prevention; and Behavioral Programs; Light Duty program; selection, training and orientation of new employees; communicate policies, evaluate performance, redirect and discipline as needed.
2. Work with or support the Director of Nursing, Administrator and consultants in planning all aspects of nursing services to include interface with other disciplines and departments.
3. Assist or support the DON in managing nursing care to include monitoring quality of care and resident activity, assessment of resident’s status, administration of medication and treatments, admissions and discharges; and to consult with family members, physicians and other Health Care professionals.
4. Fills-in as Charge Nurse or other nursing positions as needed with limited or full authority as appropriate.
5. Supports and assists the DON to ensure compliance with State, Federal, and BCHC’s QA standards, to include alerting management to potential non-compliance issues, and preparation of plans of correction.
6. Ensures understanding of and compliance with all rules regarding resident rights.
7. Assist and participate in developing and implementing a written plan of care for individual residents that addresses the needs the resident.
8. Supervise, conduct and participate in in-service training; assist in implementing orientation programs and job skills training; maintain professional competence.
9. Monitor environment and care practices of nursing personnel to ensure compliance with established safety, fire and disaster, infection control and all other departmental cleanliness and safety of work and treatment areas.
10. Exemplifies high standards of customer service skills and behaviors toward internal and external customers, co-workers, and subordinates.
11. Ensures customer service and performance standards are established and maintained in his/her area of responsibility.
