Salary:
Appointment will be made on Medical Scientist salary scale €38,540-€60,981 (€62,160 LSI)at a point in line with Government pay policy.
Hours of work:
35 hours per week.

The National Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics Service for Solid Organ Transplantation in Beaumont Hospital is recruiting a Medical Scientist for permanent full time position.
The National Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Service for Solid Organ Transplantation (NHISSOT) provides a national transplant immunology service for solid organ transplantation, including HLA typing and crossmatching of both donors and recipients, HLA antibody screening for post-transplant monitoring and HLA typing for disease association. NHISSOT or H&I (Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics) is an accredited laboratory awarded by The European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI). EFI is a European organisation that focuses on immunogenetics, tissue typing and transplantation. The NHISSOT provides H&I support for:

Responsibilities:
General responsibilities
1. To contribute to the provision of a high quality patient focused service.
2. To perform such technical duties as directed by the Chief Medical Scientist /Deputy Chief Medical Scientist or Senior Medical Scientist.
3. To assist in training Medical Laboratory Assistants, support staff and visiting workers as required.
4. To contribute to maintaining departmental accreditation with the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI).
5. To assist in the training of new and existing staff.
6. To assist in implementing measures for Safety, Health and Welfare to all staff.
7. To assist in providing statistical and management information when requested.
8. To attend courses and meetings as appropriate to maintain up-to-date knowledge.
9. To fulfil CPD requirements.
10. To actively participate in external and internal quality assurances schemes.
11. QA, stock checks, workload stats and audits as required.
12. Validation/Batch acceptance of new methods, controls, preparation of reagents and controls.
13. Reporting all results from the department within departmental turn-around-times.
14. Assisting in the maintenance of the different transplant waiting lists.
15. Routine maintenance/calibration and cleaning of instrumentation/equipment.
16. Preparation for participation in the on-call service (for new fully trained staff on a permanent contract) as directed by the Chief Medical Scientist.
17. Participating in the H&I monthly journal club.
18. Answering phone queries from our user groups.
19. To participate in the Joint Review Process.
20. Any other duties as appropriate to the grade and qualifications.

(a) Candidates for appointment must:
(i) Be registered on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical
Scientists Registration Board at CORU. See https://coru.ie/aboutus/registration-boards/medical-scientists-registration-board/apply-forregistration
OR
(ii) Applicants who satisfy the conditions set out in Section 91 of the Health and Social
Care Professionals Act 2005, (see note 1 below*), must submit proof of
application for registration with the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
The acceptable proof is correspondence from the Medical Scientists Registration
Board at CORU confirming their application for registration as a Section 91
applicant was received by the 30th March 2021.
AND
(b) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability
and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
Annual registration
(i) On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on Medical
Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at
CORU
AND
(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the
annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of
undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would
indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
