About us

Beneficiary Advisory Service (BAS) is charitable organisation which provides information, advice, advocacy and support to those on benefits and low incomes in the Christchurch/Canterbury area.

Qualifications & experience

• You have had personal experience of the issues faced by our clients and/or an ability to relate to the overall issues concerning unemployed people, beneficiaries and people on low incomes;
• Proven verbal and written skills;
• Sensitivity to cultural differences;
• An ability to work alongside a close knit team;
• Being able to approach clients in a calm, non-judgmental, and professional way; and
• The ability to learn, understand and interpret the legislation and policies which relate to our client group.

Tasks & responsibilities

• Responding to client requests for information (by email, phone, social media);
• Providing clients with information about their benefit entitlements;
• Assisting clients find solutions to problems with benefit entitlements; and
• Preparing cases for benefit review and appeal hearings where appropriate.
