General Purpose:

The Senior Staff Accountant plays a critical role in the company’s financial department and requires solid understanding and knowledge of U.S. GAAP and compliance related controls. This position assists in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of company financial data and reporting. Maintains compliance with corporate policies and taxing authorities.

What you’ll do:

As a Senior Staff Accountant, you will be a key member of the finance team, provide financial leadership and have significant interface with the CFO and other functional leaders. You will participate in the planning, tracking, analysis and reporting of various accounting documents, schedules, exhibits and summaries, monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, account roll forwards, variance analysis, periodic standard cost revisions, and analysis of inventory and reserve requirements. Including but not limited to conducting analysis of costing variances, maintaining standard costs, assisting in month-end closing activities, and providing some support to the accounting group.

You’ll get to:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Review and prepare inventory account reconciliations; identify and research variances between inventory as of reports and general ledger; make necessary corrections and report any major anomalies to Controller.
• Work with purchasing to maintain freight spreadsheets for cost analysis; periodically review for landed cost revisions.
• Work with Product Management on cost updates; perform cost updates in JDE; analyze inventory before and after updates, providing the estimated expected change.
• Prepare various analyses for inventory metric such as; inventory turnover, day’s sales in inventory, age of inventory, etc.
• Prepare monthly inventory reserve adjustments and yearly inventory roll forwards.
• Prepare Monthly royalties’ analysis of sales, perform journal entry and prepare quarterly spreadsheet for invoicing.
• Prepare Transfer Pricing data.
• Assist in the year-end physical inventory process.
• Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas.
• Perform monthly balance sheet, income statement and changes in financial position/budget variance analyses. Prepare financial statements.
• Assist with margin maintenance and reporting; identify and research margin variances.
• Prepare monthly bank statement reconciliations, present to Controller for review and approval.
• Enter/Upload approved annual departmental budget.
• Distribute monthly departmental budget vs. actual reports.
• Maintain and reconcile fixed assets schedules.
• Prepare various components of monthly and semi-annual reporting packages utilizing report writer software (Power BI) as well as spreadsheet (MS Excel) and database (Access) software.
• Perform semi-monthly calculations of Federal Excise Tax; maintain data, tools and general knowledge of governmental guidelines and regulations necessary for these calculations, perform required journal entries and initiate deposits requests.
• Provide general guidance and advice to Finance staff in Controller’s absence or as needed; be a source of information related to policies, guidelines, and principles for all Finance department customers.
• Assist with general review and analysis of all reporting prepared in house both independently and in group settings.
• Prepare various schedules and reports under direction of Controller and/or Chief Financial Officer.

Non-Essential Duties:

• Assist with the preparation of schedules and documentation related to all outside audits.
• Assist with the preparation of data provided to the insurance companies for renewals and audits; handle interim additions/deletions and obtaining insurance certificates as needed.
• Perform specific and delegated duties as assigned by management.

Performance Measurements:

• Account reviews and reconciliations as well as any related journal entries are completed timely as per the Holding management schedule, accurately and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles as well as company policies and departmental guidelines.
• Cost updates are completed timely and accurately.
• Assigned reporting, schedules, and analysis are prepared timely and accurately.
• Assigned tax filings are completed timely, accurately and in accordance with the rules and laws of the taxing authority.
• Financial data and other information provided to Finance department staff, or any Finance department customer is timely, accurate, and relevant.
• Maintain good working relationships within department as well as with internal and external customers; company policies and rules are consistently followed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• No direct supervisory responsibilities exist but may be needed to direct the workflow of Finance staff in the absence of the Controller.

Who you are:

As the Senior Staff Accountant, you must have excellent analytical skills, problem-solving skills, and extensive knowledge of the accounting principles. You should be able to read and interpret financial statements and be able to make informed decisions about accounting practices. You will have initiative and excellent communication skills.

You are:

• Able to analysis complex data with strong mathematical and financial analytical skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, to include Pivot Tables in Excel, Power Point. Have working knowledge of interactive data visualization software, Power BI preferred and Accounting Software ERP, JDE preferred.
• Must have or be able to acquire a working knowledge of laws and regulations affecting all assigned responsibilities (e.g., Federal Excise Tax).
• Have strong organizational and stress management skills. Able to work with little supervision.
• Able to multi-task, and manage deadlines in a dynamic, fast paced work environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills, written, verbal and presentation.

Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
• 5+ years’ work experience at this level is required. Equivalent work experience or a combination of education and work experience may be considered.
• Knowledge of GAAP Standards & Government Regulations

Other General Job Requirements:

• Regular and satisfactory attendance is required.
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed (especially at month-end and year-end).
