Under general supervision, processes and files paperwork which accompanies the incarceration or release of arrestees in the County jail facility; processes bail bonds and fines; and performs related work and other duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
~ Must be capable of regular and predictable attendance at a specified location in order to perform assigned tasks.
~ Booking Procedures & Responsibilities:
o Gathers arrest and booking documentation, fingerprints, and mug shots.
o Processes incoming inmates and arrestee.
o Enters information into Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS).
o Obtain medical history data during intakes, as required by law.
o Prepares inmate files, inserts booking records, and other documentation.
~ Initial Appearance Responsibilities:
o Gathers and assembles arrest documentation for presentation to the courts.
o Assists Intake Officers in preparing arrestee for initial appearance.
o Process inmates assigned to housing units following initial appearance, complete booking process.
~ Release of Inmate Responsibilities:
o Release inmates and arrestees from jail upon receipt of authorizing documentation, and proper identification.
o Return inmates property upon release or transfer to other agency or institution, obtains signatures, as required.
o Gathers release documentation; prepares for transfer of inmates files to Records Division.
~ Non-Scheduled Duties:
o Provides and maintains order in intake area.
o May be required to assist sworn staff in conducting searches of “same sex” arrestee.
o Directs arrestee to holding cells or group waiting area.
o Advises arrestee of expectations, behaviors, and standards during processing.
o Observes and oversees arrestees and inmates in intake area.
o Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
~ Supervision is received from BHC Jail Sergeants, Lieutenants, Captain, or other designated supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
~ No functional or administrative supervision is exercised over support staff. Minimum Required Qualifications
~ High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or minimum of Bronze level National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC); and two years clerical experience which includes direct public contact and experience in data entry training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
~ Ability to acquire and maintain certification on the NCIC/CJIS criminal history information system is a condition of continued employment. Failure to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire date and successfully re-certify every two (2) years shall be grounds for termination. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – ~ Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
~ Previous experience in a jail or correctional facility preferred.
~ Must be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with fellow co-workers and management.
