The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Vertical Lift division is seeking a Entry Level Attack Mechanical Structural Design Engineer, Level 1, in Mesa, AZ.

Position Overview:

The design engineer will be an integral member of the Airframe Program Capability Team (PCT), providing design support and solutions to a wide-ranging list of programs, projects and components. The Airframe PCT primarily supports the Apache Helicopter and other attack helicopter variants, however we have a large portfolio of products that we support throughout the Boeing enterprise.

Boeing Structural Design Engineers use their enthusiasm, curiosity and creativity to solve challenging problems that connect with the goals of the project, program, business units, and the enterprise. Solving these difficult problems involves working under general supervision and with multidisciplinary teams including various engineering disciplines, production operations, suppliers and customers.

As an Entry-Level Boeing Structural Design Engineer your duties will include developing, maintaining, and modifying mechanical component and installation designs using 3-D Computer Aided Engineering tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. Structural designers play a key role in creating innovative solutions that move individual teams, Boeing, and our customers forward.

Position Responsibilities:

• Assists with documentation of structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
• Assists with development, maintenance and modification of payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
• Assists with tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
• Assists with management of supplier development, test and production activities to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
• Works under close supervision.

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

• Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an ABET accredited course of study in engineering with a degree concentration in Aeronautical/Aerospace, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering by the end of June 2022.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

• Technical experience with aircraft platforms
• Technical experience with rotorcraft mechanical systems
• Experience effectively communicating and collaborating on multi-discipline teams
• Experience in structural design and manufacturing processes from the conceptual layout phase through build-to-package release.
• Knowledge of structural drawing standards.
• Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Basic understanding of structural engineering fundamentals including airframe/component design and materials.
• Three-dimensional parametric modeling experience using NX/Teamcenter or CATIA/ENOVIA methods and tools.
• Knowledge of design for manufacturing for structural metallic and composite components and experience in manufacturing
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
