The Opportunity
Boeing Defence Australia is shaping the future of the Australian space industry and delivering some of the nation’s most important programs for the Australian Defence Force. We are looking for personnel with space industry experience, space operations experience, or space enthusiasts looking to launch their space career. We are seeking a range of disciplines to join our space programs portfolio and our satellite communication programs portfolio.
Successful candidates would support one or more space or satellite communication programs; including the Currawong Battlespace Communications System, our bid for the JP9102 Sovereign Satellite Communications Component, or our bid for elements of NASA’s Artemis Program to establish the first long-term presence on the Moon. Future opportunities would include secondments to the United States in support of satellite development programs.
We are seeking a principal software architecture engineer to join our bid for the JP9102 Sovereign Satellite Communications Component. In this role you’ll be part of a team architecting software systems for the bid.
The role will be based in Brisbane CBD (QLD).
Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include:
- Leads activities to develop, document and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems.
- Leads development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system.
- Supports estimation activities, including software development estimation.
- Develops engineering management plans, including software management plans and systems engineering management plans.
- Knowledge of software architecture and design methodologies. Ability to synthesize software architectures and designs that meet requirements, characteristics and constraints.
- Knowledge of general and software development and testing tools, capability and usage.
- Knowledge of domains, characteristics, constraints and products that require software and influence architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs, and integration/test approaches.
Boeing has implemented a new COVID-19 Vaccination Policy in Australia that requires all new Boeing Australia hires to show proof of being fully vaccinated from COVID-19, or have an approved medical exemption. This role is categorised as Group 2 under the Boeing Australia COVID-19 Vaccination and Safety Controls Policy.
Experience/Qualifications
The successful candidate will be able to convey their knowledge and experience in the general, technical and behavioural competencies listed above with the most desirable experience being:
- Tertiary degree qualification with a minimum of 10+ years’ experience in an engineering or related technical discipline.
- You have worked on a complex software development program before (doesn’t need to be Defence)
- Prior experience in satellite systems development, satellite communications, or other space projects is desirable but not required.
- Australian Citizenship is required as we will need to progress an Australian Security Clearance.
- High level communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels.
