The Opportunity:
The Software Engineer at Boeing Research and Technology Australia will form part of a team focussed on research and development for exciting new aerospace applications. The successful candidate will draw upon their software engineering skills to contribute to the development of innovative technologies that will be used throughout the Boeing enterprise. The role will expose the successful candidate to inspiring programs across the diversity of Boeing and provide the opportunity to develop software that makes a real impact on the world.

Responsibilities will include:

• Developing innovative, scalable and modular software to address research problems.
• Contributing to the design of software architecture.
• Assisting with project planning and execution.
• Supporting the successful transition of technology from R&D to a near production ready standard.
• Ensuring the application of software development best practices.
• Acquiring, assimilating, and reporting on findings from research activities.
• Understanding technical needs within the business in order to assist with defining research and development goals.

To be successful you will have:

• An undergraduate degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• Demonstrable skills in designing, building and maintaining codebases in common languages (e.g. C++, Java/Python, Javascript/Typescript).
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to collaborate as part of a cross-functional team using Agile practices.
• Commitment to learn and adapt to the ever-changing technology landscape.
• Experience in DevOps, particularly in CI/CD, process automation and in-production monitoring.

Desirable skills include:

• Understanding of designing distributed and horizontally scalable software architecture.
• Experience with virtualization and container orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience in microservice architecture development leveraging cloud platforms.
• Experience in security mechanisms and cryptography.
• Experience in data model design and data model optimisations.
• Experience in real-time/low latency communication technologies such as WebSockets/WebRTC/QUIC/Protobuf.
• Experience in platform independent development and deployment.
• Experience or interest in augmented reality, virtual reality, real-time streaming and/or Internet of Things.
