This is an exciting opportunity to join the Extended Adolescent Service, within Brighton & Hove’s Specialist Adolescent Service.
The Adolescent Service works with young people 11-18 who are at risk of criminal and/or sexual exploitation, entering custody or becoming looked after. This post will carry a mixed case load, but there will be a particular responsibility for engaging young people in education and offering advice and guidance to colleagues.

Brighton & Hove City Council Adolescent Services is part of a multi-agency Service based within Children’s Safeguarding & Care services in Brighton & Hove under the Families, Children & Learning Directorate. The service works with young people who are either at risk of family or care breakdown, using substance or offending. We target the most high risk and vulnerable adolescents in the city, providing intensive joined up support to them and their families to effect change.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join this busy and dynamic team specialising in educational advice and support, as part of the Brighton & Hove Adolescent Service. This post will involve working with young people across a range of interventions, including direct work with pupils, strategic support of school teaching and support staff, and cross-agency networking.
The post sits with in the EAS team that is part of the wider adolescent service. You will be working in close partnership with colleagues in the Adolescent Service (Social work, RUOK, YOS, FFT,EAS) as well as partners in Health, Police, Community Safety, generic Social Work and voluntary sectors.
The Education Advisor will be responsible for education as a partner agency within the Adolescent Services and be the single point of contact to manage and address children and young people’s educational needs, working alongside the Local Education Authority and schools. You will aim ensure that all young people open to Brighton and Hove Adolescent Services have access to and are engaged in appropriate education.
The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience of working effectively with challenging children and/ or young people. You will deliver individually tailored programmes that achieve the best outcomes for young people at risk of offending, exploitation, vulnerability or harm. We are looking for someone who brings enthusiasm, dynamism and creativity to the role and who has a sound knowledge and understanding of education and social care, and the respective dilemmas and issues of working with young people in this context.
