LOG SCALER
Nelson
About the Job
Log scaling is an NZQA accredited job, where a structured training programme can gain you a recognised qualification. Previous experience in this type of role is not required as full training is provided. This is a permanent fast paced role that will suit both males and females.
The Checkpoint is a facility where logging trucks come to have their logs measured and ticketed ready for export. Each log is ticketed with a barcode and scanned into our system. The Log Scaler manually “scales” or measures each log, ensuring that each log can be tracked within our inventory systems.
The Checkpoint is located at Port Nelson and is a team environment where the safety of our staff is paramount. The Checkpoint operates between 4am and midnight Monday to Friday. Shifts can be up to 12 hours in length with some weekend work and you will need to be flexible with working hours as shift times can vary.
About you
You will be the kind of person who needs to be accurate, with good attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines. Good communication skills will be required as you will be interacting with a variety of people. This is an active outdoor role where you will be on your feet for long periods of time and moving constantly, so good levels of fitness are required. You will also be confident operating scanning equipment and preferably hold a Full Class 1 Licence.
Full training is given to all successful applicants with opportunities for further up-skilling into other positions as they arise.
The successful candidate will require;
Effective communication skills with both internal & external customers
Strong performance management and coaching skills
Proven supervisory skills with an ability to get the best out of people
Strong computer skills
Planning skills to determine manpower & equipment to meet requirements and minimize labour costs
Flexibility to work out of port in other C3 locations
A knowledge of port services, stevedoring operations and applicable information systems would be an advantage, but not essential, as training will be provided.
