40 hours per week, to a maximum of 50 hours 

Overtime paid at normal hourly rate

5 days per week (10am – 6pm), including weekends 

AN OVERVIEW OF THE JOB

Varied role combining conducting wine tastings, vineyard tours, retail sales and more…

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

• Promote the Cable Bay wines and the Cable Bay brand to all visitors and customers.
• Supervise all the cellar door operations.
• Host wine tastings, manage wine sales through cellar door and ensuring sale objectives are met.
• Ensure that wines are stored correctly, kept in perfect condition and no wastage occurs.
• Maximise sales whilst controlling expenses (particularly labour cost)
• Maintain and develop working relationships with tour operators and all other relevant suppliers of business to Cable Bay.
• Carry out weekly stock take to ensure that all items are accounted for.
• Liaise daily with the Events Manager for functions, events, private tastings etc
• Implement the daily opening and closing procedures for the cellar door/FOH as well as all other procedures.
• Ensure the POS has all the right information loaded for every item that is for sale in Cellar Door/FOH and this is update as and when required.
• Ensure that liquor licensing regulations are strictly adhered to. Check patrons’ identification in order to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption/purchase of alcohol and comply with the requirements of Cable Bay liquor license and the NZ Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act.
• Ensure that you and all your staff maintain a high standard of presentation appropriate to a high-end facility including grooming and personal hygiene at all times.
• Support the restaurant manager in staff training and other areas as required.
• Ensure all sales have been processed in the POS system and paid for and/or signed for fall including Cable bay staff, management and owner.
  Fully comply with Health and Safety procedure and keep excellent personal hygiene

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Train/induct FOH and Cellar Door staff as necessary for the business.
• Maintain up to date procedure folders for Cellar Door/FOH both hard copy and electronic, accessible to all staff.
• Ensure that all staff behave in a professional manner at all times, are polite and courteous to each other and particularly to all customers and visitors of Cable Bay.
• Ensure that staff complete time sheets on daily basis recording accurate times showing when they are starting and completing actual physical work and not when they arrive to or leave the premises.
• Ensure that staff comply with the Cable Bay rules, regulations and policies
• Keep up to date with the latest beverage and service trends – Attendance of wine/beverage tastings/seminars and courses on service.
• Resolution of customer complaints.

Located in a picturesque island vineyard, our venue is a popular destination for ‘a la carte’ service, private functions, corporate events, cocktail parties, music concerts and weddings. 

Our venue also offers a beautiful Cellar Door for wine tasting and sales. The winery is on site, as are two restaurants, a bar, private dining/conference facilities, plus luxury accommodation located just across the vineyard.  

We are proud to have created extensive organic kitchen gardens at Cable Bay, which supply our chefs with top quality, nutrient-dense food. This underpins our philosophy of garden-to-table, where we aim to serve the freshest, premium ingredients.  We also have our own orchards and the olive oil that we produce is winning gold medals.

Waiheke Island is a 40 minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland.   We enjoy vineyard, olive grove and sea views overlooking the stunning Hauraki Gulf.  Waiheke is famous for it’s wonderful beaches, fishing, bush walks, vineyards and restaurants.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Excellent wine knowledge, a passion for fine wines (and to be keen to learn more about them)
• Relevant industry qualification/s an advantage
• And/or 2years+ experience in hospitality an advantage
