Evaluates need for and ordering laboratory and diagnostic tests. Reviews and records laboratory results in prenatal record. Reviews and interprets laboratory results with client.
Assesses need for referral to other healthcare providers.
Educates patients and their families and encourages participation in healthcare related decisions.
Participates in constant labor and delivery coverage for HealthStart caseload.
Collaborates, consults, and refers with HealthStart physicians in accordance with practice guidelines and nurse-midwifery regulations. Acts as stand-by for unattended private deliveries when the HealthStart physician is unavailable. Acts as Cesarean section first assist for HealthStart clients and private physicians.
Completes post-partum rounds and discharges.
Supervises Nurse-Mid-wifery students and family practice residents during their clinical rotation at CH.
Participates in multi-disciplinary conference. Attends at least 50% of Obstetrics Department meetings annually. Maintains contact with professional organizations.
Participates in performance improvement activities.
Participates in continuing education activities and obtains CEUs necessary to maintain state licensure and prescriptive authority.
Adapts to changing demands of workplace and assumes a leadership role in supporting co-workers adaptation to change.
Graduate of an accredited midwifery program with Certificate of nurse-midwifery.
Successful completion of integration experience in an accredited midwifery program.
