Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full Time Position.

This position can be worked from any of the Capital Power office/facility locations across North America. This role may also be considered for working remotely.

As a Pre-Construction Lead you will be accountable for coordinating the technical work required in support of Capital Power’s greenfield development and due diligence efforts. Your responsibilities include but are not limited to conducting assessments and providing advice on technical, construction and operational characteristics including plant performance, equipment characteristics, capital, operating and maintenance costs. You will also be responsible for ensuring project preliminary scoping is completed according to business needs and company’s standards by coordinating a combination of internal Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and external consulting resources.

You will contribute to our team by

• Support the Business Development and Commercial departments for due diligence on potential acquisition of in progress projects or existing operational assets.

• Directs multi-discipline teams to complete due diligence reports.

• Support Business Development in development of new greenfield projects.

• Fosters external relationships with customers, contractors and 3rd parties.

• Manage and finalize preliminary project layouts and scoping documentation by coordinating internal SMEs and external consultants.

• Support development of Project Execution and Procurement plans.

• Support preparation of RFP documents for procurement of project specific major equipment and balance of plant contractors.

• Manages/prepares appropriate technical scope of work and complete such scope using internal company resources and/or supervising external consultants.

• Provides recommendations for equipment selection, new concepts and techniques to improve performance, pre-constructability improvements and cost optimization.

• Assists in any planning, estimating and scheduling of related project deliverables as required.

• Facilitates creation of conceptual project layouts, equipment selection and support RFP responses.

• Provides input and recommendations to the Senior Manager, Development Engineering and Pre-Construction, plans and directions, ensure an appropriate understanding of Capital Power’s construction strategy and application to the specific construction site, and ensure ongoing effective positioning and appropriate relationships between key partners.

• Working with estimating and operation groups to develop capital estimates and O & M cost for use on development projects and acquisitions.

• Support Health Safety and Environment and construction risk assessment reviews.

• Supports Internal Audit during project compliance reviews

• Assembles risk registry for technical scope of due diligence efforts.

• Effectively communicates technical information to non-technical groups within the organization

• Prepares techno-economic section(s)of the Board documents for project, acquisition and development projects.

• Ensures optimal deliverables through effective cross-functional accountability and authority practices are followed on a consistent basis as this position’s main function relates to cross-functional deliverables.

What you will bring to the role

Education:

• Bachelor Degree in Engineering or direct industry related experience.

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in Power Generation industry, preferably Renewables.

• Project Management or Project Coordination experience considered an asset.

• Experience with acquisitions and development projects over $50 million.

• Familiar with technical best practices, environmental permitting, laws and regulations pertaining to power plant operations and construction.

Technical Skills:

• Previously involved in due-diligence activities dealing with design, construction and/or acquisition of operating and greenfield developments.

• Strong understanding of project economic drivers.

• Good understanding of costs involved in the operation and construction of power generation facilities.

• Knowledge of software applications for power plant performance layout and modeling.

Working Conditions:

• Home Office/Office based with a requirement to travel up to 20% of the time.
