Pittsburgh’s diverse community. The Science Center is located on
Pittsburgh’s North Shore along the banks of the Ohio River and is

The Financial Assistant is responsible for assisting the CSC Finance
team — in the processing and tracking of financial information. 
Primary emphasis is on the review and processing of financial data for
CSC.  This information includes, but is not limited to the following:
earned income bank deposits, back up for daily admissions balancing and
reconciliation; reconciliation of various accounts to the general ledger
to include journal entries as required; reconcile balance sheet
accounts; process accounts payables.  In addition to this broad scope of
primary functions, this position will also ensure all packages are
shipped daily at a cost justifiable way.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Associates degree required; major in Accounting or Finance
  preferred.  Experience in processing financial data, with a solid
  understanding of accounting practices. 
• Working knowledge of databases.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and
  presentation skills. 
• Ability to work well under pressure. 
• The ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines is critical to
  this position.
• Computer ticketing systems, calculator, fax machine, copier, and
  personal computers to include the following software applications:
  Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, EXCEL, Outlook, Access, and all
  Windows applications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Work is primarily sedentary in nature, no special demands are
  required.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Coordinate the approval and tracking of invoices, including related
  documents, such as purchase orders, explanations of purchases, etc. 
• Perform financial analysis by researching problems, such as lost
  invoices, payment discrepancies, incorrect account coding or
  distributions, and resolving issues with little supervision. 
• Assist in the research of problems due to incorrect account entries
  to the financial statements. This also includes distributing monthly
  financial reports to the appropriate persons.
• Assist in the processing of various CSC contract payments. This
  includes adhering to payment schedules, gathering required contract
  documents, completion of required forms, and maintaining an
  effective filing system of all contracts.
• Process deposits for various fund raising and earned income sources,
  such as, Science on the Road and Classes and Camps. This includes
  insuring all appropriate general ledger codes are correct and all
  deposits balance.  
• Provide as a backup for Financial Manager for reconciliation of
  daily admissions balancing to the general ledger as well as other
  financial analysis as necessary.
• Assist with the reconciliation of monthly balance sheet accounts.
  This includes A/R, DI, and Prepaid Expenses.
• Process all accounts receivable invoices, ensuring all appropriate
  backup is in place.
• Act as the liaison between the Payroll Department and FPO regarding
  parking deductions and leases. 
• Mainta n a solid understanding of the CSC ticketing system in order
  to resolve discrepancies that relate to balancing and reporting.
• Maintain Administrative Office equipment such as copier and fax
  machines.
• Handle all outgoing UPS and overnight mail.
• Nurture a love for science by being conversant regarding current
  scientific advancements through the maintenance and strengthening of
  personal knowledge and awareness through reading, participation in
  professional development and taking advantage of opportunities
  presented with CSC.
• Establish and maintain a solid and professional relationship with
  all internal and external customers.
• Achieve all goals set forth by department management as it relates
  to financial stability and prudence.
• Perform all other Accounting related duties, including those not
  mentioned in this job description, as the need arises.

The following PA Act 153 clearances, or proof of application of
clearances, are required beginning employment and as a condition of
continued employment: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check FBI Fingerprint Criminal
Background Check Obtaining the required clearances is completed as part
of the new hire process.
