Summary:
The Registered Professional Maternity Nurse accepts responsibility for the delivery of patient care through the process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation as appropriate to the ages of the patients served based on the areas of clinical practice. Provides professional nursing care for patients in ante partum, labor/delivery and post-partum. Directs and guides patient and family teaching. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital/staff information. Strives to incorporate the philosophy and mission of Mount Saint Mary’s Hospital and to incorporate the Hospital’s goal of: Quality care, in a personal manner with total regard for individual human dignity.
Mount St. Mary’s Hospital consists of multiple locations and associate may be assigned as needed.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
Bachelor of Science (BSN) preferred
RN Licensure in New York State
Must possess BLS within sixty (60) days from time of placement and obtain NRP certification prior to completion of orientation.
ACLS certification within (12) months from time of placement.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances
Exposed to: a variety of electro-mechanical hazards; odorous chemical and specimens; infection from disease-bearing specimens; hazards of handling diseased organs and tissues; hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment; Housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals; unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness)
Flexibility in scheduled working hours/days to meet needs of unit
Handles: absentee replacement on short notice; emergency or crisis situations (potential patient violence)
May be exposed to: infections and contagious diseases; biohazardous, radioactive substances; toxic chemicals (i.e. photocopier)
May perform emergency care
Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements
Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquires
Occasionally exposed to radiation hazards
Occasionally subjected to irregular hours
Requires judgement/action which could result in death of patient
Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
Subject to many interruptions
