Cawthron Institute Hiring for Laboratory Assistants Job at Nelson Full Time

Our team provides trusted laboratory testing services to New Zealand’s food and natural products sector to meet our customers’ food safety and export requirements. We also provide specialist research and development analytical solutions for customers with unique needs, and we are the premier lab for marine and freshwater biotoxin testing and microalgae analysis.

We have a great opportunity for two full-time permanent Labratory Assistants to join our busy microbiology team, primarily focused on the preparation of Laboratory media and maintaining the quality systems. You will also ensure the maintenance and safe operation of equipment including completing housekeeping tasks such as:

• Production of a variety of laboratory media types
• Weighing of reagents and usage of balances
• Operation of autoclaves
• Washing bottles, test tubes and other laboratory equipment using approved methods
• To maintain a positive, professional and safe working environment
• To be willing to work on continuous improvement initiatives

We’re looking for organised individuals competent using Microsoft Office and comfortable with basic data entry, with ideally some relevant experience in a commercial laboratory. If you have had some exposure to laboratory quality systems and techniques, we will be looking for demonstrable experience using balances, pipettes and laboratory tools as well as knowledge and experience with automated laboratory instrumentation.

If you have an interest in science but have not worked in a laboratory, full training is provided.
