Position Summary

The successful candidate will be teaching in classroom, nursing simulation laboratory and clinical settings in the School of Community and Health Studies. He or she will participate in program and course development, course modifications, program advisory committees, program approval, applied research initiatives, community outreach and on-going future program needs.

Responsibilities

In addition to teaching assigned courses the successful candidate will be expected to:

• Use effective interpersonal communication skills within interactions with students, faculty, management, colleagues from other colleges and universities, community members and other professionals in internal and external educational and practice settings
• Provide, promote and role model a respectful and supportive environment based upon the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity
• Work effectively in a team-based work environment, including inter-professional teams
• Create a positive teaching (classroom, lab, and clinical) learning environment
• Use a variety of appropriate teaching/learning strategies
• Use academic technology effectively to engage students and support learning
• Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques and provide regular feedback
• Develop, revise and adapt appropriate learning resources for students
• Critically examine learning materials and classroom practices for discriminatory bias or barriers
• Provide academic support for students
• Support curriculum development and revision with knowledge of issues and trends related to nursing and unregulated health professionals in a global environment
• Contribute as a subject matter expert with current knowledge of issues and trends related to the Nursing and nursing profession in a global environment, to support curriculum development and revision
• Participate in reflective practice for continuing learning and development
• Attend meetings, maintain records of student grades/assessments, and participate in activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities
• Utilize Universal Design Learning principles to support and engage students
• Supporting the Indigenization of curriculum within the program
• Support the inclusion of EDI within curriculum of the program

Qualifications/Experience

• Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing; Master’s Degree in Nursing or Education preferred
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• A minimum of 5 years of recent clinical experience (this may include, but is not limited to: hospital, community, managerial, teaching nursing (classroom or clinical)
• A minimum of 3 years teaching nursing within a classroom, nursing simulation laboratory and clinical setting
• Demonstrate potential to engage in a program of applied research (including but not limited to presentations, attendance at relevant conferences and other research activities)
• Evidence of on-going professional development in the area of teaching
• Experience in course or learning materials development
• Demonstrated competent written, oral and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to work positively within a team environment
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff and college community
• Experience in utilization of learning management systems at the post-secondary level
