Reporting to: Head of Field Development
Bord Gáis Energy generates, sells and trades energy for use in the Republic of Ireland. We’ve been in operation since 1976 and today we supply over 750,000 customers with energy in Ireland. In 2014 we became part of Centrica plc. We are a progressive company with a reputation for experience and expertise in the energy market, and are committed to ensuring that all of our activity is aimed at benefiting and serving our customers.
Bringing consumers on the journey to net zero is core to our strategy. With our purpose to help customers live sustainably, simply and affordably, it’s vital that we advise our 700,000 customers on the necessity for change and provide the solutions and services that will be required to do so. Our recently established services and solutions division is built to support the business in launching energy efficiency and energy management solutions, delivering the next wave of innovation that will empower real and radical change, helping our customers reach net zero by 2050. But we can’t do it alone!
Kick-off or re-boot your career as a Plumbing Apprentice
At Bord Gáis Energy we are offering a number of Plumbing and Heating Apprenticeships for anyone interested in a rewarding career in the energy industry. Currently only 6% of apprentices in Ireland are women – we are striving to address this imbalance by welcoming all applications regardless of age, gender identity or background as we work towards a Net Zero Society.
On commencement of your apprenticeship, you will be registered with SOLAS and start the first of your 7 phases. Phases 1, 3 ,4 and 7 will be with Bord Gáis Energy working in the field, while phases 2, 4 and 6 will be with SOLAS, the state training provider.
We will upskill you to be able to undertake all plumbing and heating installation works as well as general maintenance and repair works. You’ll be working with green technologies such as Heat Pumps, Solar Hot Water Systems and Smart Heating controls as well as full retro fit heating installations and any personalised heating solutions required for our customers.
On successful completion of your training, you will receive a QQI Advanced Level 6 Craft Certificate in Plumbing and an exciting career as a Bord Gáis Energy engineer!
Requirements for New Apprentices:
Minimum of five passes at leaving certificate level (must include Mathematics)
Successfully pass the Ishihara Colour Vision Test
No experience necessary – however, if you’re nervous about picking up a screwdriver, this probably isn’t the right apprenticeship for you!
Why choose an apprenticeship?
Opportunity to earn while you learn
Make a real contribution to our journey to Net Zero
You’ll gain an internationally recognised QQI Level 6 qualification
Both theory and practical “hands on” experience
Career for life with lots of opportunities to progress and develop
About You
No previous plumbing or heating experience required
Self-starter with ability to work on own initiative
Good planning and organising skills

A driving license isn’t essential when you start, but will be a requirement as you progress through your 4-year programme

We encourage all colleagues to get involved in the partnership, with everyone receiving 2 days’ volunteering leave to participate in initiatives or events supporting Focus Ireland.
