Minimum Qualifications
MLIS or comparable master’s degree in Library Science from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association and able to obtain certification from VLA. Candidates should have at least on year of experience working with the public in a library or equivalent public service experience. Must be proficient users of library technologies, such as OPACs, eReaders, mobile technologies and common office and online applications and can engage with readers of all age. Fluent bilingual skills in Spanish are desirable. An applicant who does not meet the minimum qualifications may be hired as a trainee at a rate 5% below the minimum hourly rate. An employee in trainee status must successfully meet the minimum qualifications for the position within 12 months of hire, at which time, the employee will be removed from trainee status and the employee’s rate will be adjusted to the minimum for the position. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in library office, library locations and other professional settings; extensive use of computers and devices required. Light to medium, occasionally heavy, physical requirements which may include, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling crouching, keyboarding, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal and reading; not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Duties
Join the Virginia 2021 Library of the Year! Chesterfield County Public Library is seeking a part-time Librarian to join its team of innovative, forward-thinking professionals in providing engaging information services to a vibrant and appreciative community.
- Perform professional library tasks providing excellent customer service to library customers in a branch, administrative offices or at community events.
- Provide learning, reference, and engagement opportunities to library customers.
- Conduct one-on-one consultations with customers either by appointment or on a walk-in basis, daily.
- Assist customers with the use of various research tools and strategies for working with information, including those in digital or electronic formats, daily.
- Promote literacy at all levels, providing access to resources and materials for all ages, interests, and backgrounds, meet with community groups, school employees and others inside and outside the facility to provide library services and promote learning initiatives.
- Participate in program planning, promotion, and delivery inside and outside the facility to meet the needs of a diverse community,
- Provide work direction to volunteers in collaboration with managers,
- Utilize specialty resources such as small business center, law library, genealogy and local history center, consumer health services and makerspaces.
Perform other work as required.

Shift
20 hours/week; shifts vary and include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays
