There are a number of sports parks dotted around our spectacular Garden City. Our Specialist parks team is tasked with looking after Hagley Park, including the internationally renowned Hagley Oval and our wonderful new sports facilities at Nga Puna Wai, and a number of specialist sports turf surfaces throughout the city.

Opportunities like this don’t come knocking very often. We’re offering the opportunity to develop a career in sports turf management, training alongside internationally recognised sports turf specialists whilst gaining practical agronomy experience. In addition to this, you will get the opportunity to experience a wide range of horticultural experiences including, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, Council’s plant production nursery, amongst other parks management disciplines, opening up a wide range of career development options for the future.

This 48-month fixed-term apprenticeship will result in the NZ Certificate in Sports Turf Management (Level 4); a qualification that is highly respected by the Turf industry both in NZ and overseas.

You’ll have an active interest in horticulture, a level 2 certificate, and good reading and writing ability. To work outside, you’ll be in tip-top physical health, and you’ll love working in a team environment learning from the best.
