Christchurch City Council Looking for Senior Advisor to the Head of Parks at Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand Full Time

This is a new and exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to support our Parks division. Our Parks Unit are going through exciting changes so this a great opportunity for you to take on a challenge and really make your mark on Ōtautahi.

About The Role

As a Senior Advisor to the Head of Parks you will provide a high level of guidance to the Parks team’s significant projects and work programmes. This will include representing Parks within multi-disciplined cross council teams as well as developing virtual teams to implement significant parks programmes to support significant capital and service-related business improvement programmes.

Day to Day

• Provide direction, empower, motivate and develop others in order to achieve business unit, group and organisational goal
• Perform Project Director functions for allocated significant projects and programmes
• Act as a technical advisor and expert to significant parkland development projects and provide advice to the Head of Parks. Park’s unit Managers, Chief Planning Officer, Executive Leadership Team and Councillors as agreed and appropriate
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships, networks and partnerships with key stakeholders both locally and nationally, including counterparts in other government agencies, and private industry representatives
• Build, monitor and maintain process/consumable models to enable accurate setting of KPIs and future budgets

Skills And Experience

• Masters level qualification in Landscape Architecture, Urban design or Parks and Land management field
• Minimum of 10 years extensive industry experience in open space, parkland or land development in a governmental or commercial land development sector
• Proven team leadership experience of at least 5 years, with demonstrated success and achievement in leading and influencing behaviour to achieve short term goals
• Experience at project director or project lead level from design to development and project closure for complex multi-disciplined land development projects
• Experience and demonstrated understanding of the Resource Management Act and implementation of rules applicable to public spaces.
