About the Role:
The Software Developer will be responsible for developing and designing Smart Grid analytical use cases, applications and analytic tools to improve network reliability and management.

Reporting to the Team Lead Data Analystics and joining a high performing and well regarded team, this role will provide you with enormous opportunity to solve complex data problems, utilise state of the art analytics tools, demonstrate your ability to meet challenges head-on, often making the perceived impossible, possible. Key duties and responsibilities:

• Investigate different options and solutions for addressing various business problems, helping to make the electricity network more reliable and safe
• Automate use cases as much as possible to increase efficiency and customer outcomes
• Liaise with the relevant SMEs and other technical and specialist resources where required.
• Ensure detailed design of Smart Grid applications cater for both internal network purposes but are also capable of being marketed externally where applicable
• Perform feasibility analysis of proposed use cases
• Coordinate the high level design of solutions
• Supervise or develop a Proof of Concept application and proof that the proposed use case is indeed going to work.
• Fine tune the detailed design and requirements
• Develop detailed business cases to quantify the benefits of the relevant use case
• Ensure all solutions meet security, technical and other defined standards.
• Develop use cases to ensure a successful transition of all developed applications to production and BAU support.
• Subject matter expert (database level) across all Metering, Asset and Network automation related systems
• Coordinate business requirements across the divisions and provide data extracts or self-serve reporting and dashboards where appropriate in support of our Intelligent Utility strategy.
• Translate Smart Grid application strategies and business requirements into operational design projects leveraging blended expertise from across the UE business
• Work collaboratively with Information Technology (IT) to design supportable use cases and associated architecture while adhering to all the security guidelines
• Facilitate delivery of the trialled solutions including managing the architecture, design development and integration of real-time control, monitoring and communications systems, and customer engagement.

This role requires a unique set of skills and experience, including:

• Double degree qualification in Electrical Engineering and Computer/Data Science
• Good working knowledge of SQL databases and programming
• Understanding of supportable, debug friendly, production quality code
• Understanding of application automation, Software release lifecycle knowledge and Code control methodologies
• Innovative, solution orientated approach with a can-do attitude
• Strong accuracy and attention to detail
• Well-developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills
• Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills
• Comprehensive knowledge in data mining, data visualization, data infrastructure to support big data and decision analysis
• Experience in managing deadline pressures while maintaining quality when developing analytics solutions
• Previous experience in the Utilities sector would be an advantage
